I took this photo in January 2014 and I have just realized that I have never shared it here. Blame it on me getting older Since I have a bit time on my hands as I am wrapping up my "Polar Bear" expedition&photo tour and apparently there is a working Internet, I am finally posting it here.
"Thundered Ice"
Abraham Lake in the Canadian Rockies is famous for ice bubbles and other ice formations. I took this photo during my 3 day camping trip at the lake. All the time there I was looking for unique compositions and I was trying not to freeze, hence I was walking around a lot. I found this thundered like crack in the ice while hiking across the frozen lake. Using wide angle lens and focus blending technique, I am trying to showcase amazing ice formations and vibrant sunrise. It was an incredible experience to watch the display of warm colours while standing on thick layer of clear, cold ice.
As usually with this type of photos it is the best to view it on the dark background. Thanks and enjoy. Comments as usually will be valued.
Incredible conditions Artur, and very different from most of the cold shots I've seen from here. The processing looks great for the most part. On my uncalibrated monitor, the mountain looks a little bright to me, giving the strongly-colored sky a bit of a "pasted-in" feel. I think if you darkened up the face of the mountain just a bit, it would look a bit more natural.
Thanks everybody. I don't know if this message will be sent because Internet has just started to act weirdly...if not I will answer you queries when I return to Vancouver on Oct. 2
I used: Nikon D800 14-24mm@24mm
I did crop it ...don't have this version on my laptop here, though. This one looked better to me, though
There are a bunch of words and usually followed by "!!" that I could use but really it's just jaw dropping man. This is the best shot of Abraham lake i've seen and i loved Justin's take too.
Are you still in BC, Van? I use to be from there before I moved down . Always nice to meet a fellow canuck :P
(i'd put the mountain a bit darker though as it looks too bright, being backlit and with the bright sky, keeping the mountain so bright gives it a bit more of the full HD look)
