I have no idea who Bruce Gilden is until now, thinking I could learn something but what I found is an arrogant man who prey on the shock value of his victim's reaction and call it art.
He's a photo rapist.
I admire your work, especially your ability to engage and converse with the subject and obtain consent, and finally execute the work. Well done.
There is so much more to street photography then taking pretty portraits of strangers on the street. If anyone that falls more in the line of portrait then street. Not to say there is anything wrong with doing that. I think you captured some nice portraits.
Gilden's work or approach is not everyone's cup of tea, but his work speaks for itself. Using words such as prey/victim/rapist is way overkill IMO. Yes some of his work sort of crosses the line, but if you really look at his work, most of them do not. Also there's the term hardcore street photography for a reason. There are tons of guys out there now a days killing it in the street photography community using flash work or not. Then again I always think the hardcore street photography community is a little underground. Like comparing radio top40 popish hiphop music to classic and underground hip hop. Most people won't get it or see what they see...

I love this. Can you explain the setup behind #8?
It's basically the same setup as all the other photos, Godox AD360 & S-type speedlight mount with 51" Paul C Buff PLM with a diffusion panel.
For #8 I was setting up the lighting equipment next to the main lake at Pokhara, the rest is just waiting for an interesting person to walk past and ask for their permission When you setup large softbox/PLM you'll generally draw a crowd, some will speak English so I would asked if someone could act as a translator for me.
The lady in #8 is a pineapple vendor walking past when she saw me shooting a musician ( another street vendor). She must have stood there with the rest of the crowd for about 5-10 mins, so after I finished with the musician I asked if she would like her photos taken, she agreed for $US2 . She must have been in her 60s but still carrying the pineapple basket with her head, not sure if ergonomically this is the best method but seems like everyone is carry stuff around with their head ..
