Meet Bailey, a 12 year old female whose human's son developed severe allergies to cats and dogs. I was asked if I could take her in, but there's been a lot of hissing and swatting at me the last few days. These shots were taken before she came to my house.
This is a kitten that I have raised since he was about a week old. He had been abandoned in the basement window well of my elderly parents' house. We waited about three hours with the kitten wailing loudly for its mother, hoping she would come back (he was the only kitten in the window well). When the mother didn't come back and given it was a cold day, we had little choice but to rescue the little fella. He was chilled and dehydrated. I wasn't sure he was going to make it, being so young, but after purchasing some kitten formula and reading up about raising really young kittens (you have to stimulate them manually to pee otherwise they will die), the little fella "Mochi" is now five months old and has grown up to be an exceptionally friendly, playful, people oriented kitten. He is a real pleasure to have and made all those weeks of taking him to work with me on the subway with him in my jacket (bottle feeding every two hours and having him pee in the garbage can) well worth it. Raising him from the time his eyes were barely open maybe has contributed to his close bond with my family and his lack of fear around people, loud noises, and his eagerness always to be around people.
Glad you took the time to learn how to care for a young kitten. I've raised several that needed bottle feedings and the stimulation to eliminate their waste. May he live a long and healthy life with you!
