p.1 #1 · Twilight at Whitemouth Falls (pano)

Whitemouth Falls, though nothing grand or spectacular by any means, is the closest water fall to my place. About a 1¾ hour drive one way. Saturday I headed out for the evening with hopes of photographing a colourful sunset there but a colourful sunset is not what I got. Instead I got a complete dud! So I decided I would stay late and try for some twilight and star shots. When I first arrived, 2 hours before sunset, the area was full of families picnicking—the falls are part of a provincial park—but by sunset most were gone and I was all alone for twilight and star shooting. Something about being at places like this all alone that is rewarding on its own! Unfortunately my star photos were also a dud as the moon was setting early and its light was very weak but the twilight made up for that. This was my first time shooting here at twilight and the results were better than I was expecting. Anyone who shoots panoramas knows they are not easy to compose. Especially with busy scenes like this. I did try many panoramas but this was my favourite and my favourite for the light I captured. I almost headed out the following night too as there was a chance of aurora but with too many client shoots the next day I decided to stay home. Which was a good call as the aurora activity ended early. An aurora shot at these falls is something I've been wanting for some time now. I'll get it one day!

This is a 16 image panorama shot in portrait with my 7D/17-55 combo and a GND filter for the sky.

Thank you very much Dan. Sorry I'm not familiar with what FAA is. Can you clarify?

Further proof that you don't need top of the line equipment to produce absolutely stunning images.

Did you not mention that Fine Arts America posted an image(the one with the halo?) on their Facebook page? I naturally assumed you were a member. Sorry Scott!

Love it man. I'm sure a sunset would have been nice, but I'm digging this twilight photo.

Beautiful Scott. As someone said, so dreamy.
I really wish I could see like that at night.

Hi Scott,

I've found it extremely difficult to pull off a pano of this angle of view without accumulating too much busyness, or on the other end, holding enough interest. The balance between the upper corner trees, the moon, the clouds, and the water on either side of the falls is first rate. Nicely done!

Wow!
You created a masterpiece from a less than obvious scene.
Bravo.

Very moody and well done shot. I love how you've captured the feeling of twilight, and kept those dark tones nice and dark.
