First, prints larger than 20x30 are a no-brainer for the 5DMK3, provided you did not crop away 60% of the original pixels in post. Even your local Costco can do the job.
Secondly, I'm surprised you did not conduct a simple Google search on large print output with the 5DMK3. That step is a no-brainer as well. It may have saved you the hassle of selling your gear, unless you are convinced that your photography will greatly improve with a change of brands.

I was trying to let it be known in my own stupid way what a dilemma for me this was!I felt the same way when I got rid of my first car. There was a lot of history with that first car.
And , that what my intention was. Honestly. And, I was hoping it would create a discussion about the competition between the two( in know it is not needed) In addition, the more places I posted it, I thought the more buzz it would create about the issue at hand. Im sorry if you feel it was trolling. IF that is what you want to call it,,im Ok with that.
I was also looking for others that would commiserate the same issues. Cause I knew I was not alone!

Fortunately, the photography market offers a large and varied set of gear for all kinds of interests. No real need to commiserate unless you artificially lock yourself in to one brand.
If I thought another camera system would greatly benefit my style of shooting I'd switch too.

Not exactly the same issue what you described since I am rarely printing large, but a similar annoyance with the Canon setback regarding FF sensors. I upgraded to the Sony A7R a couple of months agao and never looked back. When some here in replies state that a different camera does not make photos better than this is simply wrong. Yes, it doesn't change the creative composition of a photo, but it makes a huge difference in resolution and especially DR. You can write an essay how to recover shadows with the outdated 5D MkII/III sensor or you can simply take a shot with the A7/A7R/D800(E) cameras and have it already there, ready without further post-processing. With my 5D MkII I often took 5 single HDR shots to get a good tonal range in the final photo after post-processing, with my A7R one shot is often enough to get the same! The difference is also very visible in the color vibrance. You don't need to print large to be able to make excellent use of the Exmor sensor technology which Canon does not have or something even close to it.
Therefore I fully understand that you switched. Nothing wrong with it. Funny that when some post they switched from Nikon to Canon for event shooting purposes then this is all glorified, but when somebody does it the other way around it is considered trolling?!

Really? Do you have a link to the galleries web site or your own online gallery? I'd like to see some of your images.

The one thing I wonder though is what if Canon finally announced some new super sensors beginning of Sept. At this point in time, I might be inclined to just wait the few more weeks to see what announcements and development announcements are made before dumping the Canon glass.

To 'commiserate' with others, all you need do is use the search feature on this site and do a bit of reading; detecting. This 5D3 vs D800 debate has been in full bluster since the 1st images hit the internet and has generated even more posts/topics since Sony A7 mirrorless became the rage.
Just do a bit of foot work next time you feel the need, cause this is just an old story, two years on now.

I would say you made the wrong purchase from the very beginning. You should have ditched Canon back then and you would have had 2 years worth of higher resolution, higher DR photos with larger, better prints to show for it.
Yes, the D800 was announced a month before the 5D3. Just think, with the higher resolution of the D800 he could have made dramatically bigger prints ... like 6 or 7 inches bigger. Wow.

Have you ever shot with that sensor? It's not just about the extra pixels, but also about the quality of the pixels. You have much more room in post to process the Sony sensor based images than Canon based images, especially at low ISO. The extra pixels do make a difference as well in large prints...photos are just that much sharper. Why put things down if you would never make use of the features? Especially as I suspect that you never have shot an image with the camera.

It seems the OP's chief complaint is resolution. He mentions it over and over, even attributes lost sales to it. And yet the D800 was announced before the 5D3, so he could have had it all along. Somehow, Canon's resolution and DR doesn't stop world famous photographers from making very large prints for galleries. But what do they know?
I have thousands of D800 images shot for me by another photographer and they are nothing special and the color is worse than from Canon. Yes, they have a bit more resolution. That extra resolution means that one can print about 6 or 7 inches bigger in the long dimension of the print.
