There have been wishes posted as rumors for a few years now, but only this year have the typical indicators been around to signal either the complete end of the 7D line after one model, or the announcement of its successor.
Rumors from different sources popped up late spring, price drops, Canon liquidating the 7D at 40% off in the refurb store, and subsequent discontinuations on online retailers all fuel the speculation this time around. None of this existed in prior years.

But based on the countless forum threads asking for a high-resolution Canon,
there seem to be a lot of people who want/need such a camera.
Not so many asking for a 7DII .
Just the thousands and thousands that already have owned or own a 7D and want an upgraded version, plus all the 1D4 owners that were not interested in moving to a 1DX.

I passed on the 1D 4 because I always skip a generation and expected a 1D 5 to replace my 1D 3.
I was never thrilled with the 7D but I will take a long hard look at the 7DII for BIF.
I can live with black focus points for daylight shooting, but I prefer red.
Rumor or not it really is getting exciting. Almost 5 years since my purchase of the magical 1D IV. Looking forward to 7D II even if it is slightly better than the IV which I will keep.

"Because those poor ickle ladies can't use big boys cameras? Seriously dude"
Yea dude, seriously I'll repeat it again if necessary. I've met a lot of ladies through the last 10 years, and the main complaint was the size and weight of the lens and equipment. Most if not all do not want to transport a gimbal, tripod, and large lens. They want the freedom of reach, and weight especially for BIF. Perhaps the ladies you hang with are more manly than the southern belles I meet?......Ha!

Although it sounds like 7D2 has not been canned.
Wait and see.
Also BIF might be a big deal here but to the rest-of-world it's just a subset of a subset.
I think most of the 7Ds in the wild are used by amateur sports shooters, like "soccer mom's" and "little league dads".
Also the large local photo club, as far as the active shooters go, it's anywhere from a third to half female, and I've heard more complaints about the weight / bulk of gear from the males than the females. But then there isn't much gear talk there at all.
