Sweet shot Fred. I wouldn't change a thing. I rather like the 50/50 (whatever that means) approach. My eyes don't wonder around either. It's a top shot and soon I'll be there too to take one just like yours. I'll make sure my is more 50/50, you know, a perfect 50/50 because yours is about 49/51.

Fred, very nice imaging of that short lived magical interval that most people sleep through.

Thanks Jeff,
It's so true. As soon as the light got spoiled, photographers started to show up.

surreal images, the lighting on the hoodoos is wonderful, I could sit and stare at these for a long time.

Hi Fred,

I'm not sure where the focal point of interest is in this image, as you have two conflicting rock formations that are prominent in the scene, one on the far left and one on the far right. My eyes just seem to wonder around with no where to settle. I also find the composition a little on the 50/50 for my liking as well. Not to sure if I should be looking at the color in the sky or the actual formations.

Nigel.

Thanks for the detailed critique Nigel. The beauty of the A7R's 36MP files is that we can do some cropping without sacrificing resolution. Here is a cropped version where I removed a little bit of the sky on the top as well as the "rock" element on the left. I agree that even though the rock is shaded, it contrasts with the brighter sky robbing attention from the main focal point.

Great shot with incredible light. Personally, I prefer the first version as it feels more balanced to me.

Really great picture.

I prefer the second cropped image. You gotta love the big sensors.

I really love the light you captured here, Fred. Especially since you mentioned you didn't use any filters. Nicely done!

Since I started shooting with the A7R I noticed that I reduced my reliance on filters a great deal.

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions!
All the best,
Fred

Great image. I want to like #1 better, but I keep going back to #2. Either way, it's a sweet image.

Bryce Canyon is one of my favorite places in the world, and highly underrated as many have never heard of it. I was lucky one time about 20 years ago to see a dusting of snow there, but my photography skills were way behind where they are now. Of course I still have lots of room to grow and make better images.

Just a beautifully composed image Fred! The colors are magical! It almost looks 3D. You locked the fg perfect.
Great composition!
