In 2011, Troy Nemitz and Karl Witt introduced me to photographing Warblers. I was hooked.
The challenge of capturing images of these colorful little birds is great. It seems that the Spring migration is the best time for seeing a variety of these birds. With that, Spring weather can hamper light conditions with clouds and rain. Finding these small birds is difficult and can be almost impossible due to leafing out of trees. The leaves also create shadows and dark areas. Many Warblers hunt for food on the ground smack in the middle of thick under-brush. The brush can be so thick that Br’er Rabbit would not dare to enter.
Finding and focusing a long lens on these little buggers, within their environment, is very difficult and just about impossible. As soon as you capture focus, they’re gone.
I believe that there are some 50 plus Warbler species. Here are 19 Warbler species presented with 27 photos, the most that I have ever posted. I think that Conrad still holds the record.
These are wonderful, Larry; your comments about the challenges resonate with me...our paths may have crossed a couple weeks ago! My favorite is one of the "easier" ones--the yellow warbler--fantastic pose, great comp.
