How long have you had that, Derek?
Congrats!
just a week, and it's not mine – i borrowed it from another member. it's beautiful though, has the same lovely focus fall off i liked so much from the other fast mandler lenses. very forgiving of front focus. unfortunately it's too heavy/bulky and the focus throw is too long for me. it's making me think more seriously about the 75 lux, but really i think the 90 cron is probably the lens that hits the sweet spot for me.

That second shot is awesome

Which 90 cron version do you like, Derek?
My impression is since the 75/80 Lux can focus closer and is so much faster, bokeh options are maybe a little wider. Also the 90 AA peak performance is not close up. Those are my little rationalizations to keep from bidding on one

You should go for the 90 cron pre-Asph-Apo. What I love with it, is the bokeh. It's a nice and a fair lens. Nice colors and nice micro-contrast although it is not Apo nor Asph. It's a Walter Mandler lens!

i meant the 90 cron pre-asph e55, the mandler one, i posted a number of shots with it earlier in the thread. i don't care much for the AA for portraits and i don't need extreme sharpness, so the AA isn't in consideration for me. i have no intention of ever using a 90mm on a rangefinder, so mfd doesn't make much difference (hawks adapter gets me plenty close). the 80 lux and 90 cron pre-asph draw very similarly, though i suspect the lux will turn out to be better for landscape (haven't checked yet).

Yeah, 90 pre-aa's the bomb for portraits or so I've always read, and seen many nice portraits
Looks like the newer ones can still bring 1k, while decent 60's versions 450 or so. The newer builds appear identical to my 75 Lux.
Anyway, love those shots with the 80mm Not that it matters, but Puts reports the 75 Lux is not far off the 90 AA in landscape mode. Already at f/2 mine is very strong, at f/4 it's searing. At 5.6, believe it or not, it is supposedly equal to the AA.
I know you take Puts less seriously than me, but in Souls and Secrets he directly compares the 75 lux to 90 pre-asph for portraits, and it's a very interesting few sentences. Background draw is very different in a portrait, and he explains why.
I think the best value of all is the 135/2.8 which is also strong in landscape mode, and they are so cheap, but an early cron not far off.

the older e48 versions of the 90 cron are a different design optically, no idea how they perform.
i actually agree with everything Puts says about the differences in this case (assuming the 75 lux is basically the same as the 80 lux). you have to keep in mind though that Puts is only comparing between leica lenses and trying to explain how they differ, what he calls a big difference between leica lenses often turns out to be small compared to their differences with all other non-leica lenses.

Good point, I got confused there Puts calls it the "Summicron-M" aka version II,and it's that lens he directly compares to the the 75/80 Lux--which I have always heard are basically the same lens.
The charts on v2 90/2 and 75/1.4 are really VERY different. Big mid zone dips WO and big drop at the far edges at 5.6 for the 90/2 v2 which would explain his comments well. We don't see the chart for the Lux at f/2 which is a shame, since it really changes.
A remember now how many loved the V1 for portraits, so I may have confused those reports. That v2 is not cheap!
Love your shots
Funny enough my favorite lens for bokeh is the 300/2.8 AIS EDIF, will my worst frontline lens for Bokeh is the Nikkor 180 AIS ED

Just a great thread and a wonderful, inspiring collection of images!
My "new" 90 pre AA Summicron should be here four days from now.
Quick appeal to JaKo: can you please increase the color(lighten) of the lens description detail in the black area of your images? On the iPad the dark gray color against the black is very hard to read. Thanks!
