p.1 #1 · My Wife @ The Grand Canyon

Grabbed this snapshot of my wife while vacationing in Arizona this past week, and I think the shot will evoke wonderful memories for us in years to come. Your thoughts and comments are always welcome.

The lighting and composition emphasize her contemplation of the creation surrounding her. Quite thought-provoking.

I hate heights....and seeing her sitting there...even if there is lots of rock below her feet, it gives me the heebees jeebees. It is a nice phot and will be one that brings back lots of memories.... But looking at the edge like that makes my knees hurt! I just don't like heights, but I like the photo!

Great place and perfect rim light on your wife. Technically the sky is a bit blown out but who cares? You created a lasting memory.

really nice, evan. amanda looks at peace sitting among such beauty. i have to ask, did you shoot this telephoto? i cannot tell if that background is compressed or not...either way, it looks perfect...painterly without being obliterated...i also cannot imagine you carrying around a tele while on vacation

Thanks all for the feedback and kind words!

Chuck: When I plan on shooting landscapes these days, I usually bring my 70-200f4is, which is pretty light and small. This shot was done toward the shorter end on that lens at f/8.

Nice Evan. I've always found the Grand Canyon to be a tricky place to shoot, but you did well here.

Thank you all for the thoughts and kind words!

I tweaked some things and have a more refined version. Amazingly enough, the sky was not actually clipped, so I burnt it down some to even it out, along with modulating the contrast in the background some. (note some gradient loss happened from downmix to sRGB)

Absolutely wonderful. I am trying to force myself to show more clear background in my portraits. I am with Herb though and could not stomach the heights. I would have had to photoshop out the rope that I tied to my wife

Having been to the canyon and the first time being so amazed at the expanse of the area, I recall that the first photo is how I remember it. At the time thinking why can't I make out better clarity, why can't I see better colors.....never dawned on me until much later that it was because it is SO big and that it is much farther away than I would have imagined.......there must be only a few days a year under particular conditions that one could get a really clear shot. That the colors would jump.....I am not sure when that is or what time of the day......but I really like the first one because that reminds me of exactly how it looks in my memory......
