If you're not getting similar results to those posted here you have a bad copy or user error. I've had mine since January and taken hundreds of images on my 70d and am very pleased!
It must have been user error as I was shooting it side by side with a Canon 500/4 IS L and Canon 100-400L without any problems

I got my copy shipped from B&H 1-17-14 and I'm glad I missed out on all the back orders. I was well pleased with the lens on my 7D when it came in but did send it back when the firmware came out. The firmware did make a difference for the better in my already good lens. I must have gotten a good copy to start with cause I didn't really think I needed the firmware but sent it in just to be able to say it had been installed. Glad I did.
Dang, For what I thought was a fairly non controversial subject this thread has gone all over the place. It was sure a surprise to find out Imagemaster likes this lens. I'm still chuckling from this comment by Imagemaster on Aug 4th.
So what if I like the Tamron lens, and so what if others do, and so what if it is not for you?
I'm at the point that I don't know which direction to take. Wait for the Tamron Lens and hope the problems are corrected or go with Imagemaster's beloved Canon 100 - 400 and a teleconverter. So educate me! Are there any 1.4 teleconverters that will work unmodified with the Canon lens and my 7D what about the 5Diii?
I also don't want to jump ship and find out that my lens would have shipped the next day. Glad to see B&H is finally shipping, I wish I had gone on their list. Has anyone received a lens from Adorama? If so when did you place the order?
Quirkster, chuckle all you want at my comment. I said it was a great lens for the price, and the two copies I had were before any firmware update or supposed fix by Tamron. At that time, neither copy would AF properly in AI Servo mode.
If you are not willing to use an unmodified TC with a lens, that is your problem. Non-reporting TC's or TC's with taped pins have been used successfully for many years by many photographers. If you had been reading threads about TC's and/or the 5D3, you would know that it will AF at f8. The 7D will not.
For anyone interested, the Tamron 150-600 is in stock at Vistek (Canada):
With the firmware update, the Tamron 150-600mm lens is a sometimes very capable lens. My review is coming soon as I am still heads deep from a busy season of weddings and traveling, but here is a quick image:
