Thanks Mike, i doubt my cardiologist would appreciate seeing me lugging the 500 but, as she won't let me go back to work for 6 weeks i have to do something, freakin boring sittin around
Sharp Sharp Sharp! Brian. Can't wait for the airshow next week, Thunderbirds, F22, F35, F18... But I think I will just bring the D810 and the Sigma 150-600 Sports and call it a day.

Thank you Douglas
checking the MILAVIA schedule that must be Langley you are headed to, i am jealous, looks like a great show with lots that i want to see, super hornet, F22, F35, Thunderbirds.
i'll be looking for lots of pics
the zoom sounds perfect, yesterday i was close to the runway, the 500 was too much as the jets passed in front of me, would of loved to have the 200-500, i was just about to go buy it before the price went up, that is when i ended up in the hospital, by the time i got out was too late, price went up $200 so i am hoping to find one used.
have fun next weekend!
The week after that the Blues are a hop skip and a jump away at MCAS Cherry Point along with the RCAF CF-18 demo (different paint scheme again this year) with F-35's and Harriers and a bunch of cool stuff which should make for a good show. Barksdale, where I've gone for the last two years, actually didn't get a particularly amazing lineup this year like they usually do, although they did get the B-29 Fifi...and of course, since it's where Global Strike Command is based, they got the B-2 again. Unfortunately the personnel that I usually meet up with down there have a new CO this year and they're being limited a little more than usual so I decided to skip it...maybe next year.
It's looking more and more likely that I'll be limited to just one airshow this year. The Europe adventure is turning out to be more of an adventure than I had imagined, so it's limiting the rest of my spending. But the lineup for RIAT is looking like it will really be something this year...Eurofighters (a couple demos, and a bunch on static), Rafale, Gripen, Mirages, F-22, F-35 (A and B), the Red Arrows, Freece Tricolori, Patrouille Suisse, Apache, Sea King, Helenic Airforces F-16, HH-101 Caesar Helicopter, and a couple others.
I may still try to make Abbotsford, but their lineup is looking pretty sparse. And being that it's only 3 weeks after I get back from Europe who knows.

Brian, yes, it's the show at Langley. It's 220 miles from where I live so I can do a day trip. I have not seen the F35 in the air so this should be fun. I think Langley is the base for F22 on the east coast? I went back and forth between the Nikon 200-500 and the Sigma Sports. The first two copies of the Sigma Sports didn't seem to be as sharp as the Nikon, so I kept the Nikon, feather like in comparison to the Sigma . But I missed the pull/push feature of the Sigma so I sold the Nikon last week and bought back a Sigma Sports, This copy is very sharp but I didn't do anymore comparison, I enjoy the pull/push thingy for airshows. There are 6 or 7 airshows headlined by the Blues and the Thunderbird within 250 miles from where I live every year. Not much else to shoot in the summer except airshows.
Langley is indeed the East Coast F-22 base under the banner of the First Fighter Wing...so you'll see the FF tail coded jets flying out of there. The F-22's are stationed in:
JRB Hickam (Honolulu) - HH Tail Code
Elmendorf AFB (Anchorage) - AK Tail code
Tyndall AFB (Florida) - TY Tail Code
Langley Eustis (Virginia) - FF Tail Code
Nellis (Vegasssssssssssss) - OT Tail Code
Andrews (California) - ED Tail Code
I think that's all of the tails, but I could be wrong...Nellis I'm not 100% sure if they have another tail code flying from there or not since the OT tail is for the testing squadron I believe.
The only ones I haven't seen yet of those are ED and FF. I had planned on going to Anchorage to see the AK tail code this year since I figured that would be the only way to see them (I saw the HH tail codes at Hickam in 2014), but when I got to Abbotsford last year there they were in all their glory.
Or late
I work shift work, 7-7...some people don't like it on the work days, but I only work 7 days out of every two weeks which leaves me lots of spare time for airshows, and I don't mind the work days either...goes fast.
too long without a picture...I don't THINK I've posted this one in this thread.

Lucky luck lucky, i definitely live in the wrong country
same for me, once spring migration is over for birding there is not much to shoot, i could easily settle on all the air shows
Even on the old model the VR is still good enough for handheld shots of stationary critters at 1/250! I do get spoiled by the 200-500's robot-level VR though.
