Sadly we are so used to regulation size fruit here to our detriment. There must be an awful lot of wasted fruit.
Looks delicious Olaf and suspect when juicier and plumper would have been more so.

Happily the EU regulations do not count for my garden
the brothers and sisters ended up in a great apple pie and around 10kg of jam.

The 21:9 ration the Quattro's offer is very pleasing as well.

mmmm, this makes the Q rather interesting. I wanted to buy a 25mm from Zeiss for my D700, but maybe I should go for the Q0. A fair bit wider, another cam in the bag, but it will act like a digital xpan. I'm really doubting now ...

My first thought on the Q zero was the lens.I'd like, enjoy a very good 21mm lens, be it Ziess or elsewhere. From what I have seen the Q zero 14mm/21mm is very good. I am waiting for the prices to drop like they did with the Merrill's, if they do.
As for the 21:9 ratio, it will after all be a crop of the sensor, which of course can be achieved in post production if you have a good eye to realise the shot for the future crop. It would be nice though, to see many DpQ0 shots here

I am also waiting a good offer to buy the DP0 and sell my Fuji 10-24 (only that lens weights almost the same as the DP0). Really impressed by the corner sharpness even wide open.

What is a good offer? At the moment the camera (incl. hood) goes for 990 euro in Germany and for 700 pounds in the UK. The latter is really a great price. How much lower it will go and more important when?

700 pounds is expensive, you can buy it now for 758 eur in amazon.fr

I will wait to drop to 600€. Nobody buys these cameras, they will end up selling them for half their original price as they did with the merrills.

Yes I got all three Merrill's for around £300 each. There was a big price drop from the original price. The same may not happen with the Quattros but be nice if it did happen.

I just bought a dp0 via a shop in Scotland. Having studied in Edinburgh once, I a weak heart for this country

Reasons why I decided for the dp0 are:
a) stellar 21mm lens
b) in-cam cropping upto 9:21
c) it's monochrome capabilities

700 pounds might be a lot, it is still lots cheaper than a secondhand xpan.
it will take some days to arrive so be patient for new pics.

I am fooling around with B&W processing on a boring image.
Below the image, processed in three different ways:

a) SPP mono only
b) via SPP colour -> B&W in SEP
c) via SPP mono -> B&W finetuning in SEP
Which one do you prefer, and why? Especially the latter interests me.
(it is not about the composition, but toning and grayscales).

Olaf I'd find this hard to comment on with the few words we use here and partially for the last statement you wrote. I find myself it is always about the composition that determines the rendering. It surely is the most persuasive element of an image to how it is developed, be it in colour or B+W. I've images that myself and see many that the subject and composition cry our for deep blacks and blown out highlights. Yes I do believe some images work because of blown out highlights and lack of detail in the shadows. This I know, is contrary to today's belief in search of the sensor which achieves the greatest DR. I often decrease the DR of my images using the levels, to give a balance, to get away from the HDR that is now prevalent in the constructs of most software in and out of cameras. Ok my images may not be great or that good, but using film when the highlights blow with the right subject or composition, it works well when contributing.
All I've try to say is I'd find it hard to evaluate the above picks with the criteria you gave. I'll attempt it though, simple by saying the last image. It is only because it is flatter and has in this case for this subject more graduation which works, being quite an ordinary scene on anyone's garden table in the summer. The flat graduation for me reflects this.
It would also be a good starting point to play around with, possibly to return to this rendition if nothing else was found to improve it.
I am also a great believer and I personaly find one exposure does cannot often be treated in the same way as another exposed conversion into B+W. I find some exposure never seem to work, or I will use a few different methods to see how it works and if one piece of software will resolve issue another another cannot.
For instance I will sometime try SPP which is a preference, if that does not work I'll try Cs6, where I have more than a few different methods. One is to convert the colour Tiff into LAB colour and extract the luminance level. If that does not work I may look as FASTSTONE VIEWER which I like a lot for B+W conversions. It can be set to read and show the X3f file which comes up asa muddy coloured file, yet the resulting grayscale image can have a very good graduation of tonal values. I'd love to find a conversion that worked every time on a file for B+W

Sorry for rambling, got me thinking. Yes I'd go for the last simply as I mentioned it suits the subject.
Congrats on your acquirement of the Quattro and I got thinking last night about the new Sd1Q. It is priced here similar to the Dp's without a lens. I do though love the fixed lens and leaf shutter the Dp's have. Of the three Dpm's I have it is DP1m I've used the most but am actually drifting back to using the DP2 more which has such a fine lens.

Here is a B+W image I think shows of the Quattro at it's best.

Olaf I too find it hard to comment just on the processing and not include the composition. I feel they are intertwined. In some images the blown highlights are not a problem, but for me in this image the highlights draw me to them, and for me that is not the subject of the image so I think they are a distraction. Of the three images shown I think the last one is the most suitable for what I like, the highlights are not as intense.
