Hey guys, first time posting here. Been lurking for a long while. There are a bunch of fantastic images in this thread and it is giving me some serious GAS! I noticed several of you have 2 of the 3 or all 3 Sigma's. My question is which of them would you grab if you were starting over and were only going to get one for the time being? I am more into landscape photography but I kind of like the compressed view of a longer lens as well and I don't mind stitching images together if I need to go a little wider. I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask the question. ...Show more →
I have the Sigmas as additional cameras and not necessarily my main camera. I like the Sigmas for things they do well, low iso and when lots of detail is nice. I have a DP2Quattro and then got a DP3Merrill because of the discounted prices. Once you get used to how they work they can be great fun cameras. It is all a challenge but then that is what makes life interesting. I may get the DP0 Quattro when it becomes available to get a nice wide angle. The nice thing is they are all very compact so it is easy to carry more than one.
apsphoto yes the dp's were my , or meant to be my second cameras. I have Full frame and the lovely EM-5 and many great Olympus lenses, but sadly they do not get used any more. Being a hobbyist photographer I can take the chance that a shot or many shots wont work. Plus photography is not all that important in the scheme of things, so the three Dp Merrill's have become my first to go too cameras. I have no qualms about shooting at high iso for B+W and on occasions slightly higher iso will pass in colour, as long as it does not have to big a blobs of purples and greens.
I enjoy your photos, they are so very interesting.
A window into a beautiful and interesting world so vastly different then my own.
I miss going too sea and would love to able to do so, say on a trawler for photographs. But alas not too be so make do with poking the camera into the faces of fishermen ashore

I thnik if you take too these camera's there is no such thing as having one. As Ray says and I myself like the fore shortening of the tele lens, having done Landscapes with the DP3 and stitched it works well enough. I would not discount the Dp2 though, or the Dp1 What I would say is the Dp3 can be utilised more in that it is also has streghts in close shallow depth of field shots with often beautiful outcomes.
Lol yea I can foresee me having 2 if not all 3 of the Sigmas. But I think I'm going to start with the Dp3, as you said with the shallow depth of field shots I can have more options on what to shoot with it as well as doing semi macro work.
Keep the wonderful images coming please. I went through this entire thread and I think by sometime in May you guys will be seeing pictures from me in here.
Great images in this thread. Intimistic, nice series of images, great places with character. Nice toning and pano on the last one. Are these in the midwest? Target rich environment.
