Cheers Ray
Thanks Doug. Yes the Dp1 is sharp especially at f7.1. I think as a wider lens is bringing so much more information onto the sensor there is a perception that it is less sharp, the same happens depending on subjects.
Sorry to hear about your computer and hope you get it up and running sooner than later.

Julian,
Thank you for your excellent images. I have recently been doing a lot of cycle touring and your images have inspired me to return to the Merrils as my camera of choice for this. Light but excellent resolution and fits into the cycle jersy pockets.
I have a question regarding your workflow. Do you work in SPP or orther software?
I have real difficulty with SPP, especially for white balance. I have been trying with conversion from SPP into TIFF and work in LIghtroom. Still does feel good, but much better than SPP in my hands.
I continue to be very impressed by the quality of your work and would love to understand how you do it.
Thanks again for the inspiration to go back to Merrill.
dovey no need to thank me. I just do what I do. My background is many, many years in painting and approach the light if nothing else as if painting.
I do start in SPP, and always raw. I agree the WB in SPP is irritating to achieve and often I give up, but do attempt it through playing with different combinations of choosing white balance setting, colour settings, colour mode and the fringe correction. I almost always give an image negative x3fill light. I never use contrast, other than negative contrast. Contrast with simple contrast slider in SPP, Adobe or whatever , crushes colour. I'd rather in Cs6 use a B&W grad layer, set too luminosity, and bring the percentage down, until it looks presentable. Rarely are any adjustments done globally, they are almost always done locally on the areas that require something.
From SPP I export as a 16bit Tiff Adobe RGB same size. I mainly use Cs6, but lightroom is good. I dont sharpen anything or use noise reduction. I quite like a wee bit of noise, sometimes shooting at high iso hoping for some good noise. I alo have all noise banding and chroma noise set to zero in SPP.
That is what I do, not a lot, most images are done very quickly and I do get bored with computers quite quickly, so probably rush them through before they are as I'd wish.

Juju, I nearly joined the small band of Foveon shooters this week - and then I bought a Fuji-XT1. But I do appreaciate your photos
Thank you Mart. You missed a trick though . But I remeber getting the EM-5 then the Fuji's started too come out. If I did not have the at that time EM-5 I'd get a XT-1, they appear to be lovely cameras.
Trouble is with Sigma camera you soon become Billy no Mates
The Foveons still have their magic, although I admit I use my Fuji X-T1 more often but I do like the images from the Sigmas, but I sure need to get better at processing the images. For me it is harder to get the image I envisioned at capture with the Sigmas than from the Fuji, and then add that to that the lack of time because of family matters.

Love the red leaf..
Alan
Thanks Alan. Have to admit after getting used to the Foveon Raw files I find it Hard to work on my sony,Olympus or canon files. Theye all have their own particular quarks, all being aqual, some are better for some subjets over others. I think also what I enjoy about the Sigma's is the challendge and am often more contented after achieveing something decent with all the restrictions they impose. Yes my family are Uni age and away, so have the time, my own time as in time you will find out.
