An excellent set, Karl.
I am fascinated by the last image because the oof canvasback- although behind the scaup- seems somehow to loom over him. I also like that their poses are the same.
Charlie
The Canvasback is very large in comparison Charlie. It was fun to line these different species up, I have a few more to share later that are fun and interesting.
Thanks much Charlie Karl

Sorry to hear about your frozen body parts, Karl. Hope you've thawed by now.
These images are wonderful - love the pale water and backgrounds, and this low angle is perfect. Nice work.
Hope all is well.
Where you been hiding..............Bullfrogs are coming
Parts have thawed and still seem to function
Thanks for the stop in Maggie, hope to see you more often this year!

Exceptional set Karl, the first is my favourite. I love the background colour and the entire image palette. The low angle is awesome...I will be spending the next 2 months lying on ice like this also during our spring migration of swans and ducks so I can relate to the experience
I prefer the first 3 in general as I'm not a fan of the OOF ducks in the latter two. The line in the eye of the last is the membrane half closed I think as I have lots of shots with a similar thing and then subsequent ones without it.
Hello Geoff, have not seen you around? I have not seen a membrane like that on the eye with that definitive line but makes sense Thanks for the good words and likes on the low level and BG harmony.
The ducks in the BG for me build a wall in this shot and that is the reason for more foreground than BG in this comp. Though I too like the clear shots the others in the BG seemed to work for the way I presented the image. Thanks for the thoughts on it and saying it like you see it, no problem
Have fun on your belly!

Such a sweet combination of beautiful duck, ice, water and very nice bluish BG.

Way to go Karl! I know how good this set felt for you, you had it all, subjects, light, a great setup. I guess that's karma All are nicely focused and exposed shots from a nice low angle. Don't think that's gets you a free pass though
1 rocks, love buddy
2 umm, KW says that looks like snot on the bill, he doesn't like shots like that
3 my pick of the bunch, I really like this one. Of course I can still find a nit... I might like less room right to bring the ducks head further from center, my eye keeps thinking it's centered
4 I think this one would benefit from a higher angle to lessen the ghosts behind the subject or at least help them to not overlap the subject
5 yes the canvasback has an interesting marking but the membrane bisecting the pupil of the main subject is a big negative in my mind
#2 you are correct Tim but I don't like the 'drop' or the 'hanging drip' as it reminds me of a runny nose This was splash and play time
#3 thanks for the thoughtful nit........I see what you are eluding too
#4 Well that may have worked but I was stuck on the ground and couldn't get up Now actually your idea would really work and I will remember that. However I like the way in this comp that the BG buddies build a barrier in the frame and force you back and that is the reason for the front biased amount of water in the comp.......there were lots of intruders running back and forth!
#5 Male Lesser Scaup, interesting eye marking with Canvasback in the background' hmm what I was showing was the interesting eye marking on the subject not realizing it was the nictitating membrane and thinking it was some other type of imperfection and the Canvasback in the BG added a neat size comparison. It was just a fun shot and more about the eye than anything else...........

Great shots here Karl! Love the soft feel of the overall scenes with the sharp detail! All are stunningly good but that first one, with the look on that guys face...superb!

Superb images, Karl!!! Excellent techs on these, and beautiful colors/bg. Yes, the low angle is to die for...I hope to find some good spots this year where I can do that kind of shooting. Excellent job on these!
A kind thanks Matt, glad you enjoyed the efforts. I have not had any good opportunities to shoot prone for these subjects. Do your scouting for your spots and make sure to have the light where you need it
Take care
Karl
