Found a good spot for a gathering of ducks not too far from me that is fed by a creek that does not freeze up and forms a nice area on Lake Erie for them to congregate. This spot offered a nice variety and for me many firsts
Sunshine and blue skies is something we have not seen in a long time and I was lucky to get that on a day off so out I went. I spent about 4 1/2hrs prone on the ice shooting these ducks and had a blast. Being on my stomach and certain other parts of the anatomy on 'ice' was more like a natural form of birth control Hey, that gets cold!
The opportunity to shoot prone is not one I have had so this was great and I enjoyed the view it offered and I can easily see how Kirk enjoys the same at his pond but I don't think he ever freezes his you know whats off
Lesser Scaup frolicking in some chilly waters and one on land.................hope you enjoy *I believe my ID is correct due to head shape and tints of purple on the head over the Greater Scaup*

Were you UNDER the water for the first 4 What cool shots Karl but I got shivers looking at that duck walking on frozen water brrrrrrrr. Your gear seems to be dialed in!
I hope your tongue didn't get stuck to the frozen floor

These are beautiful photos. You must have been wearing a snorkel to get that low. Really hard to even pick a favorite. Makes me want to get in the Jeep and drive to Ohio.

It's Limbo Time - how low can you go!... A terrific set Karl. Very low for sure, and very well captured . You managed to get a hint of color in the blacks in these and The low angle gave you a great bg. The first three are my picks followed by the unusual pose in 4. 5 ain't too bad either. No nits ~ Ron

Those lessers are greaters!! I don't mean taxonomically, but I do mean from a quality perspective. Lovely work, and that low angle was well worth the reduction in your motile sperm count. The sky and water work well together, and put all the emphasis on your subject. #1 is my pick, followed by #4. Well done.

This is a great series Karl.... nice low level shots, good job...btw how do you like the 500, heard it from T Foltz, congrats on that....I havent been out much, way too busy with my house right now..

Wonderful set, Karl. What a great low level shooting you got there. I am curious as the other as well; did your lens/gear submerge the water? Great work.

I can easily see how Kirk enjoys the same at his pond but I don't think he ever freezes his you know whats off All I have to worry about are ants in my pants... literally.
For me there's nothing better than the eye level perspective for wading/floating birds and I'm glad you finally got to experience it.
The beautiful pastel blues and soft whites are a perfect canvas for the Lesser Scaup in 1-3... exposure, color, detail, and comps are all excellent Karl.
So glad for you and that sweet piece of glass already dialed in together, I know there's lots of great images to come buddy.
Excellent work... maybe try a properly placed hand-warmer next time.

Wah, cracking shots Karl. Never seen ducks at this close counters. All the shots looks like done in a studio while you were in birth control surgery
Don't know which one to choose as my fav, love'em all.
