p.1 #1 · Did anyone tried the Sigma 18-35/1.8 on full frame?
Did anyone tried the Sigma 18-35/1.8 on full frame? Specifically on D600 or other FF body experience also ok. I really wonder how will it be. Sure, I mean to turn off the auto DX crop mode. There is no constant 1.8 zoom lens for FF on the market. And I really want to try it. Pls post your experience if u did or doing; sure welcome the photos if u have! Thank you very much!

I use it on my d800e, its a beautiful lens. you can use it on the long end in full frame mode, the wide end will have significant and severe vignetting from the smaller image circle, you can take the lens hood off, and use it in 1.2x crop mode and you'll only have vignetting at 18mm. otherwise it still shines in DX mode.
p.1 #3 · Did anyone tried the Sigma 18-35/1.8 on full frame?
I searched a lot on internet that usable range is 21 to 35mm. Although the ultra-wide range from 18-20 are having too much vignetting; but I think it will be good from 21-35 to have f/1.8 constantly! There still none on the market. But just worry a bit the weight. What do u think Aloicious?

yeah 21-35ish on FX (maybe more like 24-35), hood off and 1.2x mode does extend things a bit.
the weight is no big deal. but I don't mind weighty equipment, its less than the 24-70 2.8G that it replaced and smaller too. but I regularly carry stuff like a 500f4 and 70-200f2.8 and zeiss135, etc, so this is one of my lighter lenses in my bag.

It's great from 27-35mm in FX and about 22-35mm in 1.2 crop mode (w/o vignette)
Unfortunately, the very sharpest end of the zoom....18-21mm or so would be wasted.
On DX the sharpness is off the charts, excellent wide open and peaking at f2.8 > f4
It actually starts to decline in the center by f5.6 and edges by f8. Nothin' like it. IIL,ID
p.1 #7 · Did anyone tried the Sigma 18-35/1.8 on full frame?
that early peak in sharpness is very reminiscent of some zeiss glass, I'm a habitual near-wide-open shooter for most everything, so it works well for me and the sharpness decline from 5.6-11ish is not overly noticeable either, still much better in that range than some other lenses are at their peak.
its a strange and wonderful lens concoction. I have yet to really sit down and play with AF fine tuning on it with the dock, but so far I haven't noticed much need for fine tuning on it, maybe a tiny bit at one extreme or the other, but nothing significant, it seems to perform very well.

if you want I can try to take a few shots in FX/1.2 and upload 'em if you're interested.
Sure! I really want to see the real world photo instead numbers from tests. (Sorry for so late reply & just back home.) if u can show few shoots in difference range that will be goos. Thanks a lot!

How's the difference in sharpness from 18-21 & 22-35? Is it still good at 27-35? How about compare with nikon 18-35g at 21-35 or 27-35 with same aperture? Which lens is better?
p.1 #11 · Did anyone tried the Sigma 18-35/1.8 on full frame?
no prob, I'll try to grab some shots tomorrow.
as far as the 18-35 sig vs Nikon, I can't really compare since I have never tried the Nikon, but the sigma is between a full 2, and 2 2/3 stops faster so to compare aperture for aperture, the Nikon might be wide open where it's not at top performance the sigma will be significantly stopped down already and in it's ideal zone, but they're not apples and apples since the Nikon is a FX lens and the sig is a DX...
if you're buying specifically to use on FX and need full FX coverage (and won't be using a crop mode whatsoever), and the range you're looking at is only 27-35ish, IMO you'd be much better served with a high quality prime, that range is pretty narrow, something like a 28 f1.8, or sigma 35 f1.4 would be ideal and roughly in the same price range as the 18-35's (roughly).
personally I purchased my 18-35 specifically for use in DX mode for some events I cover, my 24-70 was typically in the 28-40mm range 90% of the time when I used it, and I don't need a full 36mp for web use (especially since I have to do some of my post processing on laptops or my big tablet which aren't the most robust systems to be doing post processing on, and in hotel room nonetheless), so using DX mode on the d800 and the 18-35 will give me the angle of view I'm looking for, and nice 16mp files, plus 1 1/3 stops more light than the 24-70 if I need it (which I do sometimes, since conference halls are notoriously poorly lit)...

For an AF zoom it's prime sharp thru f5.6 with bonus use on FX say 28 thru 35mm
I buy fast to shoot in the f2-f2.8 range and have been very pleased at the long end...
it's just that the wide end is so off the charts sharp at the aforementioned apertures.
Makes a guy glad he still has a couple of DX bodies in the stable.

I got called into work, so I haven't had time to grab those pics yet, I probably won't have time to take the test shots for another day or 2, just a heads up.

Too bad. But ok. Let me try to search on internet. But i found there are very limited people sharing photos w/ this lens on ff.
Well, i want to sell my 24-70/2.8 & get this one or buy the S35/1.4 or Nikon 35/1.8. My 24-70 is hardly using it. (About 1 time per year just! :P i think it's quite heavy & big.)

I'll take it with me tonight to work and grab some pics during my break there, they'll be boring pics of the hospital hallway, but better than nothing. I'll also get hood on vs hood off because that makes a large difference IME.
p.1 #18 · Did anyone tried the Sigma 18-35/1.8 on full frame?
Ok, here are some comparisons, they're not perfect, I didn't have much time to take 'em so I wasn't worried about subject or anything, I was only trying to show the differences in FX and 1.2 crop modes. so the images are boring but hopefully these will help you out. these were all taken on jpeg small compressed, so IQ isn't great, but this isn't an IQ comparison, only a image circle size comparison on FX/1.2...just keep that in mind
I'll upload the different focal lengths in different posts starting wide.
