Congrats and a great job on all of these. GBH's are common and often overlooked by many but they are of my favourites to photograph and I always enjoy seeing what everyone is capturing with these guys. Good shooting!
I was out of town for the first go around of these guys and missed them Chris. I'm glad you won because then I get to see them! Excellent set and well deserved recognition
I don't know what it is about these birds, but I'm hooked on them. My wife calls me a stalker (of the birds).
Two years ago, I started seeing them on a lake near our house. The times I tried, I could not get anywhere near them before they flew away. Last year I had some luck. I was able to get some shots, although none that I'm completely satisfied with. But I was giddy just to get them at all without them flying away.
For the first time this year, I saw two of them yesterday. I sped back to the house to get my camera a few blocks away. I came back and slowed down as I was driving by to plot my course, and sure enough just slowing down in the car as driving by spooked them away. I came back around a few minutes later and saw one in a different spot. I parked my car and hadn't taken more than a couple steps and it flew away. So I have to plot my route more carefully next time, although there are only so many places I can park. And it's not like I'm parking 20 feet away by any means. There's even a walking path along the lake that has people walking by all the time. So I must look shady for them to fly away when they see me. Damn birds...
Love the shots. I'll certainly never get that close with my 70-200 + 1.4x. But I can dream.
