I don't have one. I'm considering the purchase a D600 and an import may be an option. Also thought it may be of interest to someone who has purchased an import.

Interesting news. I'll send mine in here in a few weeks, hopefully after the mad rush has died back a little. I haven't really noticed any more sensor gunk on my D600 than my D800, but I shoot outdoors a good deal and I change lenses quite a bit, so they both need cleaning pretty frequently. So truth be told, I don't know if my D600 exhibits the dreaded flaw (I bought it refurb'd so it's possible the shutter has already been replaced), but I'll send it in anyway in case I want to sell it down the road.

If you're comfortable with not having a full warranty (grey market), I'd suggest looking at refurbished models. Roberts has occasionally run refurb'd D600's for $1299, which is a hell of a deal for a full frame camera. Plus you get a 90-Day factory warranty, another 90-days from Roberts, and no questions about whether NikonUSA will replace the shutter.

if I situation like this were to occur Nikon usa would not be responsible for its handling or repair. it is quite literally not their product. you would be responsible to return it to place of purchase and then you wait for them to turn it in to whoever they are going to have repair it.
what's it worth to you? read the terms of the USA warranty.

I don't have the "oil" problem with mine other than some dust particles that I can just blow them out once in a while. I would like to know if there is an expiration date for this. I don't see it specified in the announcement so I'll hold on to mine for now.
From what I've gathered, this does not mean that they will replace your shutter. They will inspect, clean, and send it back, if it does not meet their standard to replace the shutter. I don't want to live without my D600 for a few weeks just for that

I tend to agree. There is more to consider than the shudder replacement. If I decide to purchase one it will probably be a refurb/used. This announcement will more than likely drive those prices up. Good news for present owners.

Thanks Josh, I am hoping for another $1300 refurb'd sale. I'm not in a hurry.

Mine was a refurb and they just sent me the shipping labels so I am sending mine in today. Better safe than sorry plus it will add to the value of my camera if I ever decide to sell it down the road. I am going to miss my baby while she is away

Thanks Nikon!! I will be sending my D600 in as well. Like you (MDoc9523), I will miss this camera terribly when it is gone. I love this cam almost more than my D800

Now would be the time to find a refurb or used one really cheap. They were selling for $1300 refurbished a few weeks ago. This would be a heck of a deal after you got it back from Nikon with a new shutter.

Funny - I had sent my D600 in right before the warranty expired, and they replaced the shutter. I just received an email from Nikon saying that since the service had been done to my D600, there was no need for me to send it in.
I just recently cleaned the shutter again - it had been a while - and I think it was all just dust. (It was fairly dirty, but I hadn't cleaned it since receiving it back in December and doing a lot of shooting.) I'll need to check it sometime soon to see if there are still any issues.

I had mine replaced back in September. I just got an email from them asking me to send it in. I don't think I will as I don't see anything but dust on the sensor.

Leighton Did they replace the shutter when you sent it in before?
Yea, I sent it in for a final check-up before the warranty ran out. And it came back with a new shutter, cleaned sensor, adjusted AF, firmware update and a general cleaning. It looked and operated better than it did when it was brand new.
And all in under two weeks. I was totally satisfied with Nikon service in Melville. YMMV.
