p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Maui Exposed - trip of a lifetime

Fell in love with this place. Spent 2.5 weeks with the family there and it is a photographers dream. So many places to explore and things to do. Loved the Hanna area and the waterfalls. Under almost every bridge there lies a beautiful waterfall. Didn't have time to do too much landscape photography as I have a little boy @ 2 years old and a little girl at 5 years old. Here are my favorite 4.... tough to pick just 4 though.

Thanks for looking!

<edit> Uploaded a few changes and the order got a bit messed up! Numbering is the same. Added another waterfall.

#2 Tranquil Waterfall

#1 Sunrise on Black Sand Beach

#3 Volcanic rock - Fire and Ice (tribute to Iceland!)

#4 The Wife's favorite ;)

#5 Just another waterfall

1 and 4 are my favorites and the Hana area of Maui is also my favorite place in the islands.

Yup, I need to visit Hawaii this year! All great shots, 1 being my fave. Is your wife making you print #4?

Love No.2. A very calm shot with beautiful florescent colours.

Hey Corey,

I will agree with your wifes choice! #4 is really very cool. With #3, I would use a layer mask and adjust the tone of the ground separate from the sky so it's not quite so magenta. And with #1, which would be my other favorite, the processing isn't quite working for me. It has fantastic potential, but it seems like there are too many areas where it's too hot and was blown out. Also, I think a slightly faster shutter speed would have worked there. To have allowed water motion but not turn so much into water mush if you will. Anyway, I like the potential of it, but if it was mine I would do a redo on it.

Jim

Extraordinary set! Ironic how a place with such violent origins becomes so peaceful and beautiful.

Thanks Ben! Loved Hana and wish I would have known that before we booked our trip. I would have spent the majority of our time over there. Loved Hamoa beach!

My wife tolerates my landscapes, but she really wants photos of the kids. I'm thinking I can convince her to get a nice large print done of that one

Ya, that was my favorite as well. I have a lot of different angles of that waterfall, but that one seems way more peaceful.

Thanks Jim! I will definitely tone down the magenta. I had a lot of trouble taking #1. The wind was blowing the mist right onto my lens. I didn't realize it was affecting the image quality that much. I cleaned it once or twice as I was shooting, but lost a LOT of shots. Even this one needs much more work I agree to increase the contrast and eliminate the water spots on a lot of areas. Thanks for the great critique. I am going to go back through and look for some better water. I bracketed a lot of images, but ended up with a lot of water shots that were much too blurred out.

I have lots to post! Will probably just link to my exposure page when I get it done. Thanks for the feedback!

Not sure of the name... Which one? Thanks!

Thanks! Ya, definitely violent. Was reading up on the history of the islands as well. At least now it feels like one of the safest places I have travelled to. Feels safer than home.

Fine body of work you have there. I have a different sort of a question though. Given that you report EV compensation are you shooting in automatic modes? Your quality and technical skills merit going fully manual.

There are some very beautiful places in Maui. It is a bit hard to believe how many little hidden gems there are! Thanks for the comment!

Thanks! I do a lot of my shooting in aperture priority mode for landscapes. The exposure compesation is usally dialed in to get a bit more accurate first image of a series of 5 images as I bracket a lot. Depending on the shooting conditions, I find the first image sometimes needs a bit of over/under exposure compesation to center the histogram so that my 2 over exposed and 2 under exposed shots are not being wasted. The odd time I also shoot 7 images when the lighting is very tough, but very rarely take advantage of the 2 extra images in post processing. Hope that makes sense!

Some... not some, all fantastic sceneries. I'd strongly advise not to post such large photos without any watermarks.
