I have been challenging myself to get hummingbirds in flight . I also have been wanting to try filters and painting effect.

So, I decided to try both for this week and have edited my entry.

Nice Roberta!

You should go to Hummingbirds.net and report your sighting on the migration map. It could be the first sighting here in the US for the 2014 migration! Nice sharp image and getting a hummer photo has been on my bucket list for awhile. Normally the males come up first but you captured a female. It may be a month or so before any work they way up here to the midwest. We put out 5 or 6 feeders each year and enjoy these wonderful birds during the warm months.

Having shot hummingbirds I know how tough it is. Nice capture. Could you have shot at a faster speed, might have frozen the wings. I know it
is often a tradeoff with exposure.

Thanks everyone , appreciate the comments.
John thanks for the link as I was not familiar with the site. My only problem is I have a hard time identifying some of the species

Young Image, I generally do shoot at higher speed, but this one was way in the shadows. From what I have read , you really need several speed lights to stop the wing motion.
