Thanks everyone for such a great respond.
I was lucky to get this shot. Not too long after shooting clouds covered the sky again. Thin and fast moving layer of clouds blurred stars a little ( I like the effect it created). Light pollution comes from Calgary and moon hidden behind the clouds (the moon was out for first few second of exposure).
I'm sure one could write a book about blending techniques. I don't want to do it here but I will share few tips. I use blending for depth of field and dynamic range quite often. In addition, sometimes I use somewhat new technique of blending for perspective. Sometimes I use all 3 techniques (example here: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1251708/0#11908842)
This photo (Broken Darkness) was blended by hand. Foreground photo after blending for depth of field was painted in. In regards to small misalignment of photos ( foreground and background in this case) the trick is to find the areas where you can hide it. Snow, water, dark ice, etc work great. Standard preparation (white balance, luminosity and other) are required to do that. This technique works for some photos only and previsualization helps later in post processing. If someone would like more details about blending please PM me or email [email protected]
