, I've had the original Rebel (300D), 20D, and 40D. The only one I still have, the 20D, no longer works.

Thanks sfink161.

Thank you bergenor for taking the time to answer and checking on my behalf. I am sure the info will be beneficial to others here in the family. Jim
PS: I have been sitting on the sidelines for a long time with my 400 f5.6 Vivitar, 450 f8 Soligor, and the 500 f8 Kimunor. All preset manual focus treasures. Gigglegiggle.

Since it does not AF properly on either my 7D or 1D4, I have sent mine back.

Maybe if Tamron gets their act together and explains and fixes the problem, I may get another later.

Whoa, doesn't work on 1D IV or 7D!! Well I'm now in no rush at all now, even if it works on 1D X, I would also be using it on 1D IV a lot.

I'll await acknowledgement from Tamron that problem exits and they are working on the issue.

It works fine on my 1Dx. For the money, I'd keep mine and probably have the Canon 100-400 for sale after a few more tests. I haven't done any lens alignment on this lens. Just picked it up last Saturday in Berkeley. All shots were handheld. No extra sharpening done except for LR's default of 25.

It appears that, inexplicably, Tamron tested it only on the newest Canon bodies. Until Tamron fixes it (if they fix it), my guess is all of the bodies that were introduced at the time of the 7D or older will not work. In other words, the vast majority of Canon bodies in use are no-go. That is a real head-scratcher.

Edit: the Mark IV is a couple months newer than the 7D.

If this is correct the lens should work fine on the 5DMIII. Same AF as the 1DX

Hi folks,

The last 10 images are new ones shot with my 6D in case you have a interest.

Will be posting some of my many sequential action shots taken with my 6D in AI Servo. Aiservo works IF you are using a compatible Canon body. My findings have been posted above. Will be contacting my dealer and Tamron again tomorrow on this frustrating issue of Aiservo not working on my 7D.

Excellent BIF shots, thanks for sharing! Plus you proved that AI Servo is tracking indeed. I notice that typically you stay 552mm or smaller zoom. I'll guess that you found the lens and camera more effective at that zoom length then full 600. Is that true?

Thanks again Jay for the new images...you have proven this lens can be a real winner. Since I would only use it on the 1DX and 5D3, it is now creeping back into my radar Unfortunately, the 200-400 is already in the mail Oh well....I'll maybe sell the 100-400 and then purchase this Tamron as a more portable solution for when I'm weak and lazy!!

Not really, have many just as sharp at 600mm at f8 to f11.

I am sure you will create wonderful images with your new 200-400, but this lens would give you a good portable solution.

Some sharp shots there, as well as a couple that are not. No series of 4 or more shots in a burst though to indicate AI Servo AF is functioning properly without pumping the shutter button.

Hi folks,
Just posted a series of 8 shots with my Canon 6D in Aiservo with no pumping of the shudder button. (Images 49 thru 56) I have taken many sharp sequences with my 6D and will be doing it again today a great Eagle cold and clear. As I stated above I do have to constantly pump my shudder button on my 7D body and I hope this gets resolved by Tamron. Image 57-58-59 are a quick edit of three of the images from the sequence. This by far is not my best series but I think it will show Aiservo works fine with certain Canon bodies.

Great shots Jay! Do you handhold these? I usually handhold but am considering upgrading my tripod with this Gimbal head since it look like it may help with BIF shots:

All have been handheld, just picked up a Wimberley Sidekick and am on my way to try it out.

@ sfink161

Steve,

FWIW I just returned that gimbal. It was extremely stiff, vertically and horizontally. Think I am going to go with a Manfrotto 393.

Any AF results/opinions of this lens on a 1D3?
