drool, those skin tones again balanced so well with the environment and no blown out snow. how do you do it lol. what time of day was this Lisa? late afternoon?

Thank you! Late afternoon -yes. Just before sunset. There were a few tiny bright patches of light sneaking through the trees onto the foreground snow and I didn't feel they were adding anything to the image so I cloned them out.

Beautiful picture, as always.

I'm intensely curious to learn more about your lighting (I always ask that, don't I?). The lighting overall gives me this feeling of a studio lighting setup, so I'm dying to know what all you used.

It was natural light - no reflectors or strobes. I placed him next to a darker treeline so the right side of his face (camera left) was shadowed softly and the left side of his face (camera right) was brighter. This difference in ambient lighting made for some pretty dimension on his face. I enhanced it a bit in post as well as I always do.

Again, great work both in the capture and the post.

Curiosly how far out of frame was dad to catch him?

In my limited experience babies don't sit still very long.

Dad was standing just over my head to get him to grin (he LOVES daddy). We weren't necessarily worried about him falling and hurting himself (he's a great sitter) but he definitely didn't like the way the snow felt when he tried to crawl away. One hand in and he promptly pulled it back out, looked at it pitifully, and then burst into tears. lol

Gorgeous work as always. In this case I prefer the 1st image, to me, it just looks like a happier smile. With the 2nd image was not sure initially if he was a smile or not. Also when 1st looking at the images the 1st just shouted out..Large canvas print, maybe with a slight crop at the bottom and at the left.
Again gorgeous work!
