Mesquite Dunes was very stamped with footsteps. During this visit, I hiked towards the very back in an effort to find "virgin" dunes.

I found this location and liked the high contrast. At this point, I used my Canon TS-E 24mm and shifted down a bit to include foreground detail. The A7R files gave me enough dynamic range amplitude to capture highlights and shadow detail without the need of many frames or filters.

Beautiful patterns and tones make this a dynamic image. My one niggle is that the bright spot on the top left corner makes the eye compete for attention. But I presume that is a compositional/aesthetic decision you have deliberately made.

Great shot Fred!, I feel the warmth. The color is fantastic.

The detail is incredible! Every grain is different too...

Fred, very interesting image. I love it, although I would probably tone down the red channel a bit.

Composition is masterful to me. Beautiful dynamic diagonal with an s-curve to boot. Love the foreground with it's texture and shape. Great colour palette with the dark blue sky and sand coloured foreground. The only thing I'm not sure about is the position of the sun so close to the left edge. That's from a photographers point of view.

As a non-photographer I would say it is magnificent!

What red tones? I don't see too much redness at all. When did you calibrate your monitor? All looks good to me and I JUST calibrated it.

Wow…excellent transition from warmth to cool and the composition is superb.

Love the detail and texture of foreground. Some excellent control in PP

You found great patterns in the dune. Beautiful comp and nice dynamic range (one exposure?) and lighting.

Ben, Canon couldn't match the D700, and they aren't even close to matching the D800 and it's been out 2 years... I am thinking if you want to keep your Canon lenses, then you just need to go invest in the Sony A7R. I think you will be waiting for the cow to jump over the moon before Canon matches it's DR and Hi ISO capability.

I JUST calibrated it.

Mine is calibrated once a week because I'm working in a color controlled software development environment here. Are you sure yours looks okay? Can you please try neutralizing the colors in Photoshop and check the result?

EDIT:
Did a quick check in CS5 myself. Neutralizing the colors at 0% fade produces a much more realistic looking image. Red channel off, as I said.
