I was inspired by the wonderful Elena Shumilova to go out and photograph my children with our farm animals. We have 35 chickens (31 hens and 4 roos) - no idea why it never occurred to me to photograph the children with them. The kids LOVE their chickens and the fresh eggs are so delicious! As a family of 12, we are able to eat most, and sell what we can't eat - the hens pay for their own feed via the egg sales. I will be expanding more on this newfound inspiration also - but I love this shot and wanted to share. I may add more later.
Thank you, Herb! Yes - we have 10 children (yes, all mine lol). They range in age from 16 1/2 on down to 6 1/2 months. I wouldn't have it any other way. Little Millie (short for Camille) here is 5 years old.

Congrats on the pregnancy, Andre! I'm sure you've heard all the same comments I get - once you make it past 2-3 kids you're fair game it seems. Are they all yours? You must have your hands full! You need a new hobby! Do you have a TV? Don't you know what causes that? lol
Let me start off by saying I really like your work Lisa but there is something about the chickens feet in this one that just looks out of proportion they are large . I know that you can not help that.

Thanks Lisa. Oh yes, heard the whole array of them ... I always think of my kids as blessings and something to be loved ... so why wouldn't I want more?
Great photo! Beautiful kid, and beautiful Barred Rock chicken. We have 3 backyard hens (2 Buff Orps and 1 Americauna). I'd get more, but we live in the middle of Southern California suburbia... 3 can get a little noisy, I can't imagine 35! I see a kid-chicken portrait in my future as well
OMG, nice picture Lisa, im new in photography and since i saw your work im taking photography more seriously. i hope one day i get to shoot a picture like this beautiful one.

Thank you guys! I want a dairy cow next.
Hi again Lisa. Your daughter will have trouble nursing a dairy cow while you shoot an image or three. Love this shot, btw. It has a fair dinkum rural feel to it.
