Photographer Frank Wong recently posted a very informative review on the Tamron 150-600 f/5-6.3 VC zoom lens.
His write-up has numerous images of the lens and test shots.
This super telephoto zoom is now priced at $1,069 and is a great alternative to Canon’s expensive big whites.
Interesting review. I'm definitely interested, but would like to see some more reviews. The price seems to be very low for that focal length range, kind of makes me wonder who they can offer it at that low.

How about because they came up with an innovative and more cost-effective design?
Then just go buy a Canon 600 II for $12,000+.
Oh your so funny I would be lucky to afford the new Tam My wife just bought a Hynda (sp) in July and I am so impressed so who knows maybe a Chinese lens would work

Interesting but I worry how can they sell a lens like this for so little? I would love to have a lens that would do 600mm with image stabilizer
Clearly Tamron is using plastic construction for the lens barrel and putting their $$ into the glass which is what Sigma has been doing for years. And I suspect that the price is low to directly compete with Sigma's 150-500. And if this new Tamron meets or excels the performance of Sigma's 150-500, they'll clearly have a winner on their hands.
At this price point with that reach this is a steal even if the performance is just ok. Could become to go to wildlife on a budget lens. No doubt I'll also be seeing lot of these at the local kiddie soccer tournaments as well.
If this lens produces pictures any where close to my 100-400, I am buying it w/o a doubt. Fortunately, it's winter sports time and soccer and flag football aren't for a few months so I can wait for the reviews.
I've already pre-ordered from B&H or get the first copy that my local store gets, whichever happens first.
As for the review, well done but I would have preferred him test the AF under a little better conditions. Looks like he just pointed it at something and hoped for the best. Seemed quick enough for anything I'll want.
I always believe what you get is what you paid. I asked the reviewer about focus breathing (in Chinese). At that time he had no idea of what I was talking about but now .."less focal length breathing" appears...
Don't think the price will drop. If the lens is weather sealed and if it's is as good as the reviews say it is Tamron won't have to come down on it's prices. It's already cheaper than Sigma 150-500mm, isn't it?

I carried my 100-400L out this morning. Even in the dim dawn light.....the iso was pushed up to 12800 and I kept thinking, what if the f stop was as small as 6.7

So what? Why are you comparing a $1700, 100-400 to a $1070, 150-600? Your 100-400 is f5.6 at 400mm. The Tamron gives you the extra reach of 400-600mm at f6.3, not 6.7.
