One more post from the Pantanal, featuring a species often cited as emblematic to the region. According to Wikipedia, Jabiru means "swollen neck" in a common indigenous South American language, and seem to be aptly named (see #4).
Enormous birds, bigger than wood storks, and about the same size as saddle-billed storks. Graceful in flight, ungainly on land, and (Wikipedia again), doting parents. For an earlier version of the same family, check out Eric's photo!
Comments/criticisms/advice all appreciated as always.
Incredible birds and wonderful captures, but #4 is just fantastic and deserves a place on your wall. Truly amazing. What time of year were you there?
Don
Yahoo! Well done and that catch is a first for me and I think on FM as well. Tasty treat for sure but do they digest the teeth? Never really thought about it but dang that is cool
Love the layout of your post, from flight shot to family and close-ups the effort is top notch.
Wow!!!
This is an amazing series Greg! The fly in is just perfect, as I love this perspective...
The final image... Jabiru v Piranha is just crazy good... looks like the fish lost
Beautiful light and setting in the first three Greg, great job giving us that story in 3 compelling images.
#4 instantly became my favorite... until I scrolled down to #5. Both are fantastic captures, but #5 is incredible IMHO.
Excellent work once again.
