Lisa, I only recently found your work though the post of the baby catching the leaf. I used to participate in this board much more, but work and family have caused me to fall away. Your work inspires me back. As the father of 7 children, I have no idea how you balance your work with the size of your family. I hope you find a better balance, as I know how hard that is to find. Your work is truly amazing, and I have pointed my daughter-in-law to your site, as she is a wedding and family photographer in NC, just starting out. I hope your work inspires her as much as it inspires me. One question I do have; What percentage of your shots are all natural light as opposed to some sort of fill or strobe. It all looks so natural, and I am really a lover of using natural light. I would love to know how you get your lighting so perfect.
@Charlie, 99.9% of my work is natural light only. I need to go through my favorites, but off the top of my head, there are only two images in this particular collection that are OCF (the b&w of the girl at the piano and the b&w of the girl at the dry lake bed). I definitely prefer natural light.
I don't know how you can juggle 10 children and such a successful career. You do beautiful work and are an inspiration to all of us. I especially like the images of the little red headed girl and your oldest daughter. The baby pictures are esquisite also.
The group picture in 22 is you and your family isn't it?
Simply beautiful images Lisa. I've taken the liberty of saving your post to inspire me to improve my own portrait photography this year. I hope you, your family and your photography business have a wonderful year....

Lisa I know I have asked this question before as well. your work is amazing and I love all of your images. I truly get inspired looking at them but as a photographer the desire to understand the BTS of your images is always there.
I know you say most of your imagery is natural light yet almost all of your images have beautiful strong catch lights in the eyes and the skin tones and faces are always filled in as if you are using fill light such as reflectors or strobes.
Many catch lights and fill light looks can be achieved with natural environmental reflectors such as walls or buildings etc but many of your pictures are outdoors in large open areas where there doesn't appear to be any walls or buildings so the only thing left is photoshop?
are you adding in catch lights and filling in skin tones with photoshop post processing? (none of which is wrong so no jab here) just another photographer trying to understand how you use and take advantage of light in your imagery.
