I am not sure if that is a word or not, but the waves were rushing in while the couds danced in the sky. Just another beautiful evening at Huntington Beach in Southern California. The first shot is the whole shot, while #2 is a crop from that original. This was shot with the Nikon D600 and the 14-24mm.

All comments are welcome.

Hi Jim,
I love the sky in this scene, it looks like ripples in sand after the tide has left, you could almost turn the image 180 degrees and still have a believable seascape, provided you doctored the pier buildings of course!!! I think my preference is for number one, gotta love a red sky, cheers, Bill.

Beautiful shot Jim. The bold colours are wonderful. I like the cropped version better as it pulls me into the image a little more...feel like the onrushing water is just about to engulf me. Nice shot.

Very sweet. The second one is stronger, in my opinion.

Jim, great image.
Like them both, maybe the 2nd by a hair because the illuminated buildings loom a little larger in the scene

Jim,
What chez said. In the 2nd, less is more, draws you in & doesn't feel as distant.
Nice capture.

Jim, I like the original, leaving a little room at the bottom. Amazing texture and color in the sky. The skies have been great all week. We just had another amazing sunset tonight in Carlsbad.

Jim, Delightful image. The colors are incredible. but the 2nd one lacks the balance of the first. Those red hues make everything right. Too bad you couldn't have found a way to eliminate the man made structures, though.

Beautiful scene as usual. I like No. 1 more as it appears more balanced to me. However, No. 2 feels more intimate, due to the crop, but somehow the red hues (as Wayne mentioned above) in NO. 1 make it more attractive.

Terrific shots Jim. I’m liking the broader spectrum of colors in he first shot - shows more of the brilliant red we’ve been getting as of late. Just wish I could get down there to enjoy it and try to capture it!

Cheers!

I love the expanse of the first shot; the variety of colors in the sky is simply stunning. I also really like the reflected colors in the water and how soft (not sure if that's the best terminology) they are.

Very, very awesome! Incredible sky, love the way it reflects on the waves in the sand.

Beautiful vivid shot, the second one is more captivating than the wider first one.

Very nice capture...!

The first has a much bolder sky, while the second has more foreground...

+1:

Jim,

You photographic perspectives are spot on in capturing the S.Cal coast and beaches. Thanks for sharing.
