Here is one of my favorite frames from all my supercell thunderstorm chases in 2013. This particular storm was found in far northeastern Colorado, near the small city of Julesburg. I think this storm produced some baseball size hail around the time of this image, but despite its spectacular and menacing appearance, it did not produce a tornado. The High Plains of eastern Colorado produces some of the most spectacular and photogenic storms in the world.
Fantastic! I have dreamed to chase a storm and capture one but I have zero clue and I'm sure the amount of planning for safety is paramount. Thanks for sharing, it's a gorgeous photo.

Jason, thanks. Yeah it does take quite a bit of planning and more importantly knowledge of when and where storms like these form.. not the least of which navigating around them such that you aren't putting yourself in too much danger. I've been at this for 15 years, and I guess it helps that I'm a meteorologist by trade -Mike
