Anytime we move anything around in the house, the kids go crazy (in a good way), inventing all sorts of new games. We just put this table back so they could draw on it (on papers, on it ), and they immediately jumped on and started dancing...
I haven't used this camera in a while (thought it got uncalibrated), I forgot how much fun it is...
I was annoyed that it was crooked, but I think I like it that way now, adds to the altered reality.
I was tempted just to say that this was "so good," but I think I'll take a minute and explain why its good.
First, you've nailed the timing perfectly of you son stepping off into the air. He hasn't started to fall or compensate yet, so it honestly looks like he could walk on air. A second earlier and it wouldn't look like he was actually as committed, a second later and he'd be falling or trying to catch himself. Perfect.
The framing behind him as he takes a step is perfect.
Your other son behind him with his hand up, perhaps miming a push, but also maybe suggesting some sort of prayerful stance... Along with that, the artwork in the background also suggests some sort of crown. He almost suggests to me the officiant of a ceremony in which your other son is taking part... a test of faith perhaps.
Compositionally, the extra space below is key. I'm not sure why, but the tilt doesn't bother me in the slightest. Perhaps an ascent also plays into the religious imagery I'm getting.
I love it as well. I'm curious about your comment about being annoyed that it's crooked. This is an electronic copy, a JPG. You could straighten it in Photoshop, couldn't you?
Evan, thanks for the thoughts. I didn't even notice the crown/prayer aspect. Now that I do it's even cooler As if the prayer or whatever it is allows him to walk through air...
Elliot, meh
Friscoron, I don't like editing my polaroids, takes away from the joy and point of it (my joy and my point). Also I'd lose the border (which I love), and again, I kind of like it now. And it's a scan of a print, the print being the main goal for me, I'm just sharing the print digitally
I realized afterwards it's not really fpj. He was doing the walk offs by himself, but I did give him the go ahead when to for this shot so... More documentary than fpj I guess.
