Haven't posted anything in over a year and don't think I've ever posted in this forum, so I thought I would contribute since I lurk here often. The telephoto shots are likely the 7D/300f4IS/1.4TC combo. These are from a trip last year....a week in Kenya, then a week in Tanzania. I know a few are overprocessed for the taste of some but I figured what the heck. Enjoy and let me know what you think.
Wow...I tell you, the Dark Continent is on my short list of places to visit. Beautiful pictures - I especially like #1 - dark clouds on the horizon and the retreating elephant speak volumes.

Usually wildlife images are better when the animal/bird/critter is either in profile or at least partially facing. However this 'walking into the dusk' works very well. Nice set- I also like the little bee eater very much.
The elephant image was actually my first photo of an elephant on my first day; turns out being my favorite despite the unusual composition. As for the birds, I've noticed the African birds allow you to get closer than most North American birds, which really helps when you don't have a 500mm or 600mm.
Really excellent images.
A bit oversharpened for my taste- but as you said- opinions vary.
Certainly these are worthy of accolade.
I hope you post more of your work here.

these are amazing.
simply out of personal preferences, I really love the elephant, the colors are out of sight.
