I see camera bodies and lenses listed, but no mention of adapters. I'm using EdMika's .5mm FD to EF adapter but don't get infinity focus on any lenses using EOS bodies. FD primes range from 17-300, zooms 35-200, plus I've a full macro setup, including the 50/100/200 and bellows.
What adapters are you folks using, or are these converted lenses; i.e Ed Mika kits?
I'm looking at several options, an EOS-M, NEX-5N, and taking a serious look at the new A7s. All the images posted here are fantastic. The EOS-M adapter is easy, but I've no clue regarding the NEX or A7s.
I'd love to use these old beauties fully; focus to infinity...any help would be greatly appreciated
Jerry, I use EdMika FD to EOS with my FD 35/2.8 TS, and no problem getting infinity but then the TS isn't a "normal" focussing lens having to allow for all the movements. I'm surprised that your EdMikas don't allow infinity focus, have you contacted Ed about this?

Yes, I've chatted quite a bit with Ed, I'm using his .5mm brass adapter and it doesn't allow for infinity focus on EOS bodies. I've used it with an EOS3 film body and digital's; 40D, 50D, 7D and 1D2N....no infinity...but you just buy the one thin adapter. On longer glass, 300mm and longer, you get close to infinity focus, but some internal adjustments need be made.
Ed's conversion kits are a different story, each individual lens has a specific kit, internal workings and sizes are different with each lens. But unlike the .5mm brass adapter, you must buy a kit for each lens, my FD mount lenses are 20 strong, that could get quite expensive to convert them all
Thus my interest in adapters for the NEX-5N or one of the new A7s. I'm looking to go FF, haven't yet with Canon, once the A7s and adapters are flushed out; good vs. bad designs, I'll probably look hard at the A7. The NEX-5N might be a good entry point as all those adapters have been well tested...the Metabones adapters look nice.
If you scroll down past his development/history text you will find a list of lenses with approximate focus distances. My findings/testing are very close to Ed's. I grabbed the .5mm adapter mostly for close-up and macro work, for this type of shooting it works GREAT. Plus, even tho infinity focus isn't available, the distances still allow for other imagery from 1.5 to 150 meters or so.
BTW: EdMika's .5mm adapters will give you infinity on some lenses, but you need to get into the lens optics to reset the infinity stops. I did this on all of my long-fast FD L glasss (300-400-500-800).
Here are a couple from my FDn 200 f2.8, on the NEX-7, complete with "PF"...
We survived the "Storm Hercules", all trees & power intact, which is a first....

The strong winds have already stripped the trees of snow (-6F*)

Hi Edd, yeah I wasn't completely clear, the 300mm and longer glass does work with the .5mm adapter. Ed has some good Youtube videos on the required adjustments, his conversion kit videos are great as well.
What adapter are you using with your NEX-7, metabones or some other brand?
BTW, I did pickup the Tamron Adaptall to EF adapter you recommended, haven't been rolling so no use yet, but soon I'll give it a go on my 1DMk2N...think I'll test the 500 f8 mirror 1st
A few from today with the 20-35L and 50L on the lowly NEX 7, waiting for it's FF cousin...

Edd
I think you'll be happy with the 20-35L on one of the A's, Edd. The extreme corners on my copy aren't great at any focal length or aperture, but the vignetting hides most of that anyway. I'm having fun with it, even at the widest end, which was a big surprise for me. Maybe I'm starting to "get" UWAs.
I confess ignorance about these FD lenses as the mount was discontinued by the time I started shooting a Canon. Now, I have moved to Sony (A7r) and am pretty well set from 16mm up to 90mm (though perhaps I could still use a 24 or 28, but I digress). Any of the FD lenses that are especially good/better than the EF versions, or are smaller and just as good as the EF lenses? How do the 135/2 and 200/2.8s compare, for example? I would not mind picking up a lens I might use at a concert where I need a bit of reach. Thx for any thoughts.
I'm really enjoying the images/posts here again; great to see the renewed interest in the FD lenses. Just one from the lab, with the NEX 6 and the SSC 35mm f2 Concave up in front (at f2).
Here are some pics taken at 80mm and 200mm from the Shard in London on the a7 with a Canon FDn L 80-200/4 at f5.6 or 8. Despite the fact that the subject was filtered by a UV filter and also the glass window of the Shard you can see that the resolution is quite remarkable.
