$1000-1500 is really low end price, when talking about 600mm lenses. I have never seen a 600mm lens for that price except mirror lenses
Minolta 600mm/5.6. Not a mirror lens. $410 shipped from KEH (that lens cap on the end there is a NEX-5N).
F6.3 isn't that bad for 600mm...I usually stop down to f8 with the 500/4 + 1.4x so I am quite excited to see how this one performs. My sigma 120-300OS may go on the chopping block if this thing turns out to be good enough optically!
Color me skeptical, but I think it will come in at least $2,500-$3,000. Nothing to base that on other than the thought that Tamron must know that a lens of this FL range with modest aperture and image stabilization will have huge demand. The Canikon alternatives to reach 500mm and beyond are no less than $5,000 for stabilized, older, used models. So, why offer so much in return for so little? At $1,500, they'd be leaving a lot of money on the table. A nikon 80-400 is what, $2,600-$2,700? Following Canon's recent pricing, a new 100-400L would seemingly fall in that range as well. It's those buyers that I'd be targeting, and they'll still sell plenty to pros and amateurs who would like a zoom to complement their prime superteles.

Hmmmm, I picked up a used 400 f4 DO in great condition (later model) for $3500. Put a 1.4x TC on it and I have a very good 560mm f5.6 lens:
So a 150-600mm zoom that's in the $2,500-$3,000 range still would be attractively priced compared to a 400 DO plus 1.4x.
If the Tamron comes in cheaper than that, even better

Well if you get bored of it and want to resell it at that price, shoot me a PM. I haven't found that good of a deal on one.
I wonder what the aperture transition points are on the Tammy. It'd be nice if it were faster than f/5.6 at 400mm, but I doubt that, not that it would be faster than say f/5. But every little bit helps.
Pricewise I think the Tamron will be in direct competition with the Canon 100-400L II, but slightly less expensive. Note that I am not comparing focal length, just pricing. My guess for the Tamron 150-600? Around $1899. Just a guess, mind you.

Keep your eyes open, I got my 400 DO for $3,500 all-in as well here on the B & S boards. Great shape and had just gotten back from a CPS service. I've been very happy with it from size/weight/IQ/AF standpoints, and use it probably 70% of the time with a 1.4TC on my 7D. Granted, the thought of being able to sell the 400 DO and have a lot of cash leftover after picking up a Tamron 150-600mm sounds attractive, but the Tamron is really going to have to punch above it's projected fiscal weight in the 500-600mm range to make me consider it.
