I drove down to Haines for two days of eagle shooting. Still no snow to speak of down there which is unusual for this time of year. Snow would have been nice for the photography but having clear roads was nice also. I had two days of mixed sun and cloud, and managed to come away with 4000 shots My goal is to get that down to 400 soon. Here are just a few images I pulled out while going through my initial culling process of finding all the OOF, clipped wings and nictitating membrane shots. Hopefully will be able to find some more keepers as my editing continues over the next few days. Hope you enjoy.
#1 is right up there with the best eagle shots posted here, ever!! #2 and 3 are also very strong. Maybe Haines is the place to be?!! Should we all come for a visit! Don
The first one I love all the feather details busting out everywhere!!!!
Number 3 I love the wing span stretched out!!
The last one - Wow what a huge fish in the last one

I know everyone is always talking about how the camera doesn't matter as long as you're getting the shots but man, these shots are CLEAN!
Love everything about each one of these images. The poses are perfect. DOF, sharpness, and noise (or lackthereof) are all perfect as well.
Thanks, the gear isn't everything but there is no doubt that the gear helps with this type of photography. Location and light matters the most.

Thanks a lot Don. You should try to get to Haines. It is the place to be right now. Many photographers were there from all over the US. Some leading workshops, some attending workshops and others just enjoying the eagle action on their own like I was.

Great shots, Geoff. Does this mean none of these guys hang out around Whitehorse?
Tony
Thanks Tony.
The majority migrate out of Whitehorse, but we still have a small group that stays over winter. I think after the Haines salmon run they will head further south to maybe Harrison area and maybe the island to visit you

Thanks BeeBalm. The fish are so big they can't fish for them. They are dying after spawning so they just drag them out of the water. They are Chum salmon.
