This is now the 7th installment of a project I began years ago. I visit southwest Montana each year for one week. Each years looks different depending on how much rain/snow they've had and how early/late in the summer I go. This lonely cabin sits in a big valley and I've taken to shooting it each year. Sometimes I try sunset, others at sunrise, others with different lenses, etc -- I want to get something NEW each year.
This year I had no clouds looking north. Instead, I turned my lens to the southeast and shot the mountains and cabin from a new perspective. The sky was better this direction. I also tried shooting lower. A small patch of yellow flowers serves as my foreground interest.
I've included the prior 6 years for comparison. I like to see them together to tell a story of time and nature.
Ah I remember this thread last year. It was great last year and great this year. Keep it up man! The post is gonna get super long once you hit the 15 year
Very cool idea and nice pics! I think this collection will only get more interesting as the years go by and the cabin continues to change as you do also. Keep it going

What a great project. Each is beautiful in its own right, but the collection is fantastic.
Thank you. That is why I want to post these together. I believe the collection says more when it is seen together

These would make an amazing collection/gallery. Very well done, you have my vote as featured thread.
Thank you very much. I do think it is unique to return to the same place once a year. It proves to be a challenge for me. That is why I enjoy sharing this with others.

My vote goes to 2012. This was a very enjoyable post to read. Some good stuff, and an interesting story.
I have a tree root that I have returned to several years running. Very much mirroring your story. But your stuff is actually quite good.
This summer they cut down my root. I hope you have many more years to enjoy.
Tim,
That is so sad about the tree root. I really develop a relationship with these locations, these special places that for a few minutes each year belong to me. I'm sure you feel that way about your root.
I would just cry if someone some day tears down this little gem. I hope never live to see that happen.
I always enjoy when you post this series each year Gordon. This year's photo really emphasizes the openness of the area. I also enjoy the color contrast between the sky and land.
