The winter in midwestern USA has been a rough one and I haven't been out to take many photos. I wanted to take photos of something... anything... so I tried to be creative finding subjects around the house.
All of these are with the 50mm f/3.5 MC macro lens on the 6D.
No 1 Painting - this was done by my wife's grandmother!
I picked up 3 Olympus OM Zuiko lenses from a local seller. After my adapter arrived, I tried them out on my A7r and boy, was I in for a surprise, a pleasant one, I may add . The IQ that those small lenses generate is really amazing.
Oly 21mm f/3.5 - I tried this before; I bought it with the premise of returning it if I was not happy and that was a few years back. It was an OK performer but the second copy I just bought blew me away. The second one is a later copy and it is a MC version. What a difference between the two! I compared it with a Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 Distagon. Yes, the Zeiss is a tad better at wide open and a tad faster, too. But at f/5.6 I didn't see much difference, if any. The Oly is wider by quite a bit, too. It is one heck of a lens, especially considering the size.
Oly 50mm f/1.2 - Another stellar performer. I sold my Noct-Nikkor and Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 long time ago but based on my memory, the small Oly can easily compete with the best of them.
Oly 100mm f/2.0 - No, I am not ready to sell off my other lenses in the similar focal length range yet but boy, this lens really is awesome. Using focus peaking of my A7r, the contrast of that lens makes is so easy to focus on that body. Sharp from wide open on. I was so impressed with this lens that I wanted to buy a second one on eBay. I couldn't believe it that a mint copy for the lens went for over $1,300 at the end yesterday . Never mind, I am happy with my copy with its battle scars.
Just a sample of my grandson using the 50mm f/1.2 at wide open when he was playing. He is so used and comfortable to me taking his pictures and that would make it easy for me to capture his relaxed expression.
Anybody has or had first hand experience of the zuiko ED-IF "big whites" like the 180 f/2 or the 250 f/2?
Please share your thoughts and/or pictures. Thanks zuikoholics!
A few shots onboard a cruise ship with the 50mm f/1.4 MC serial number 9XXXXX. These are just intended to be fun snaps on vacation, nothing too serious here...
I love the Oly lenses too. I currently own, 21/3.5, 28/2, 100/2 and 200/5, all later MC versions. My experience with the 200/5, is very different to philber, I love it...on 5DII. It does have CA, but easily dealt with, (and nowhere near as much as the Nikkor 200/4 for instance), and is sharp. I compared with a Zuiko 200/4 and kept the smaller F5, as I couldn't tell the results apart.
I did have a 24/2.8 and stupidly sold it, I really can't think why!! I also had a 21/2, but my copy at least, wasn't as good as the 21/3.5 I kept.
100/2 at F2 One of my most used lenses. I also own the Makro-Planar 100/2, and except for close ups, prefer the Zuiko, just as sharp but even smoother bokeh, and of course smaller and lighter. Wastwater Reflection by timballic, on Flickr

...and another with the little 200/5 (No need for colour de-fringing on this!) Very hazy conditions, not lens softness.

However, Gary Reeses tests include the MC version, so there must be some around, I seem to remember now that they're rare and the results of the tests showed the MC had lower resolution at expense of greater contrast (only from one sample I realise) I wonder which Philber's was that he didn't find sharp? http://zone-10.com/cmsm/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=272&Itemid=97
I've searched ebay worldwide however, including completed listings and whilst there are a few of the F.Zuiko 200/5, there are no Straight "Zuiko", so they must be rarer.
