I do like that the diopter on the a7 goes to -4, I'm at the edge with the nex-7 at-2.

The cv 21/1.8 ultron plays well with the nex-7, I have high hopes for it on the a7.

I basically want the A7, with ooc jpegs and no color shift. If they put out a decent wa prime I'll be all over it, but unless somebody confirms an affordable rf wide that does work with it, I'll shoot SLR lenses under ~28mm...
So far there hasn't exactly been anything to make me optimistic about the situation (<28mm rf wides).

Hey I'll be happy if it turns out my assumptions are wrong about wa rf performance on this camera. But until I hear/see more positive things than what has already been vaguely summed up by reviewers, I'm leaning on the pessimistic side.
I'd rather be wrong in the lenses' favor.
I can't remember which reviewer it was, but there was only one (English language) that had favorable things to say, and they send very generalized.

The Chinese (?) review people keep referencing about heliar images-are we even sure it is translated correctly?

Where do you see Heliar? Heliar is btw the name of both the VC 12mm and VC 15mm. Btw the image was shot with an A7, A7R should be even better.

edit: I meant CV 12mm and CV 15mm.

I very much like the sound of this in theory, and as an owner of a good range of M lenses, it is at least interesting. I will have to decide between this camera and the Leica M240. However, for me there is one caveat that few are mentioning - the EVF.

As far as I can see, people are lauding this as a wonderful EVF, yet, it seems to be the same resolution as the EVF on my Fuji X100S. Now, I have the benefit, on that camera, of switching to the OVF (not as good as Leica's, but ok).

I found my X100s' EVF to be worse than my Nex-7's (did you set up the Nex-7's creative styles correctly?,) and the RX1's is better than both. The A7's EVF has better contrast than the RX1's, as well as better optics, so it should be quite a jump from the X100s' EVF.

Well I'll post it again:

There will be programmable in camera lens correction possibilitys.

Scroll down and watch the video - lens compensation -(coming soon)
http://www.sony.net/Products/di/en-us/products/o4j5/index.html#overview

You can set up all your favourite lens profiles and save them!

A very neat feature!

I don't know if this counts for RAW files as well

That makes it pretty obvious Sony is going after rangefinder users.

Technically, it's possible since the RX1 raws include lens correction info for ACR (or any raw converter to use for that matter) and the user has the option to enable it or not during raw conversion.

Edit, I could be wrong since it could just be a lens profile available in the raw converter with the RX1 and it's fixed lens. Hmm.

I doesn't seem to have color shift fix, though. Just CA, vignetting and distortion.

Good find. This could come in handy for my LM-NEX adapter.

The paramters in the screen shot look a lot like some parameters I found in the E-mount communication protocol. Right now I was only able to control (luma) peripheral illumination, distortion and CA.

Hopefully the colour cast is also in the protocol. If so, my adapter could also correct for that on a lens by lens basis.

I would imagine the sliders indicate colour cast as well:

I think it does have color shift. This slide is from the Sony video:

I know that when I tweek the settings on my adapter I see the following:
NEX5:
-supports peripheral illumination correction (luma) (Applied in both RAW and JPEG)
-does not support distortion correction
NEX7:
-supports peripheral illumination correction (luma) (Applied in both RAW and JPEG)
-supports distortion correction (can be a combination of pincushion and barrel to compensate for complex distrortion) (Applied in JPEG only)

Another quick thought. My NEX7 was running old firmware, I wonder if the new firmware exposes the colour cast controls.

When does this software adjustment take place for the lenses? Is it at the time of the exposure or is it applied afterward?

Paul,

This also applies to your Phigment adapter. I will see the cameras on Thursday of next week, October 24 at PhotoPlus. I will be bringing your adapter and also my Minolta CLE MC 40mm f2 Rokkor-M lens. I still can't find anyone attending the show that has a 21mm or 24mm M lens. Hopefully Sony will allow me to attach this combination and some of my Leica R lenses.

Will there be any problems with loading the lens onto the camera besides possibly not recognizing the camera that you foresee?

I have an A7r on Pre-order just like you.

Rich

Hi Rich,

Hopefully they let you mount it. I'm looking forward to hearing the result!

The only problems would be that the camera doesn't recognize it. This may show up as the camera not booting up, or taking a long time to boot up (my experience when debugging problems on NEX cameras).

If this happens, just take the adapter off and everything should resume as normal, with perhaps a battery yank required.

I don't see how anything worse than that could happen.

I'm not sure about when the correction happens with the App, but see my post above about when it happens if a lens controls it via E-mount communication protocol.
