The NPFW50 is a single cell pack. 3.7V nominal * 1.080 Ah = 3.996 Watt hours of power. In contrast 3 good quality NiMh AA cells in series = 3.6V * 2.0 Ah = 7.2 Watt hours of power... but 3 AA cells take up more room than 1 smallish Li-ion cell as Li-ion wins on energy density.

Take a typical DSLR pack like the 1900 mAh ENEL15 for D800; these are two cell packs, wired in series =
7.2V nominal * 1.9Ah = 13.68 Watt hours of power. Some of that power will be given up as voltage regulator losses

Michael, the NP-FW50 isn't 3.7V but 7.2V. The nominal capacity is 7.7Wh. - a tad more than 3 AA 2.0 Ah Nimh cells. A single NP-FW50 weights considerably less than 3 AA cells but is somehow bigger in total volume, although the AAs, being separate cylindrical units, surely would take more space in the battery compartment than one square Li-ion pack.

I picked up my M and EF mount adapters and an extra battery today so now I have the adapters, battery and lenses but no camera. This is a first for me

Not unless they changed something from the NEX cameras.
When I plug my NEX-6 into my Anker external battery, it tries to connect to USB host, and you can't shoot with it.

Artur - Mea culpa! I should have looked at one. Picking it up it felt so light and small I just assumed it was a single cell / 3.7V nominal; I was having a hard time believing it myself actually. Thanks for the correction.

Do you mean "other Continents" ?? Maybe TNT just works faster in Europe , or maybe the A7 factory is in Europe!

I am glad that I won't be around, because it can't be more than a diarrhea of boring test shots.

Didin't you say that you wanted to wait for it until an early adopter sold his for a lower price like you did with the Nex-7?

I got myself a Canon FD 80-200/4 L for super nice duck shots

That has to be better than, "it can't be more boring than test shots of diarrhea".
