It's quite interesting if it can be confirmed that there is none of these when shoot with A7r.

It is indeed very strange. The only thing I can think of is that the A7 has an AA filter and that extra layer is causing this issue. I'm trying to find out if it is an issue as quick as I can. Is is very surprising (or not) that Sony has not learned from the reflection issue that arose when they first introduced the SLT. It makes me wonder if they have any photographers testing these cameras or do they just have the electronics engineers test them. Then again, the rumor is Zeiss was involved early on so wouldn't Zeiss have caught this and given Sony a heads up?

Test Two with point light source.
Hmm, I've seen flares like this when a photographer's flash went off while directly opposite me taking a shot of celebrities.
The only thing that wasn't there were the small round spots, at least as far as I can remember.
The camera used was the Nikon D3s and the lens, the original Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8. Usually, my settings with flash were at 1/60, f/5.6 and ISO200.
Cheers

I can now confirm that I can reproduce flares with the A7R if you shoot a point source in the extreme corners. I'm curious if the light type and intensity makes a difference. Anyway, I'm not sure I should be concern yet.

In reviewing more photos from a night shoot, here are a few more flares. First set is with 24-70 MK2, and second with 70-200 f2.8 IS Mk1. No filters on either lens.

Which camera is that? I am not seeing anything this bad on the A7R. If I was seeing something like that, on a regular basis, I would consider returning it.

It's A7R + Metabones 3
And that's why its back in the box, for possible return back to Amazon, but I'm not ready to return it yet - still hoping a solution could be found.
These types of shots are precisely why I got A7R, and the images without flares are excellent. The problem with nightscapes is there are many point light sources, from all sides, and one has to be extra careful to ensure it doesn't flare up. I didn't notice the flare in the two photos I posted, at least not on a small LCD, and only when I came home I saw it. In many cases I was able to spot it and re-frame.

I find it very hard to produce. Under normal night shooting, I can't see any signs of ghosting or flares. I once sold an early Sony SLT because of the ghosting issue. This issue appears to be much harder to reproduce on the A7R so I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. Here's an example of the ghosting that I was able to reproduce after many attempts.

Yea that's what I would like to try next. I originally posted wondering if adapter has anything to do with these edge flares, not having any FE lenses to try.
I did however attach SE 18-55 from NEX-7 kit, and there is a flare when a point source is near edge of the frame, but its cleaner flare than the mess I've encountered. And behavior is indentical to NEX-7 when same lens is mounted there.

Lastly if you are leaving the country within 60 days of purchase, you can claim back the GST (10%)
This tax can be claimed on all purchases over $300 when you buy within 60 days of traveling. All tax is claimed after you pass through customs at your point of departure through the TRS booth.
You need to provide your reciept of purchase and show the goods, they do not need to be in the original packaging.
Hopefully someone else can take advantage of this! (I was afraid I would have to buy the camera in the US but not this time.)

1)
Are A7 and A7r both affected by internal reflections?
2)
Is A7 mount weaker because it is set in a plastic front plate?
3)
Is there a consensus that FE 55 also induces vibrations at certain shutter speeds? I would love it if someone could objectively sum up the vibration issue for me. Focal lengths affected, shutter speeds etc.

Has anyone notice how when you have a native E/FE mount lens attached and the body set for MF that the on-screen distance scale has a virtual dampening of the decoupled MF ring as you approach optimal focus and then a little pause right at the peak of focus? Nice little touch IMO.
