Yikes, my camera finally arrived down town and my dealer is even as I type diving into the boxes to charge up the battery pack so it'll be good to go by the time I make my way down there.

Good you mentioned it Michael, the dealer gave me your charged battery he is charging mine for you

The red dot on my FE 35 lens hood doesn't align with the red dot on my lens.
That aside, I've been enjoying how this camera performs in the dark, pretty amazing. I do find myself checking to see if it always focuses in the back like Kai mentioned in his review, and I have found that it does happen, but maybe it's happening because I've been looking for it to happen.

A7r's are taking over Vancouver!
Here are a couple snaps with the Ultron 21 tonight. First uncropped, the second corrected for perspective. I haven't shot color profiles with the lens yet, but under certain conditions this doesn't really matter.

No problem, I'm very glad that worked out for you!
I've got a Sony BC-QM1 multi-charger (handles various Sony packs) busy charging up a couple of spares. Incidentally the QM1 also features a quick charge function, has USB output, and has indicator lights which tell the state of charge. Its slightly bigger than the BC-TRW NP-FW50 only charger, which isn't yet shipping here.
Nice to see you and frozenbc managed to get yours while some daylight was left - looking very good indeed.
Unfortunately I didn't get there until well after nightfall and only recently arrived home from a meeting so no photos to speak of yet. I need to puzzle out the interface and reassign some buttons pronto as I see how easy it is to knock ISO to 50 in the dark!
If there is anyone in the Vancouver area looking for a camera, PM me to get contact details for the the shop supervisor - they had just a few unspoken for bodies left in stock but they aren't expected to remain that way long.

I've known Ashwin for a pretty long time, he knows what he's doing, and I really enjoy his body of work. I remember back in the day trying out his Canon with some fast 50mm lens mounted, it's what got me interested in photography. He's writing for a particular audience, on someone else's site, just for fun as an enthusiast, with diplomatic verbiage. Believe me, there's no money in it for him, really just the perk of shooting with newly released gear before most others can get their hands on it. He does have a huge arsenal of M-mount glass, and I suspect that if he isn't showing the results from wider glass on the A7r, they aren't worth showing....

I haven't been contributing much lately, but have been reading all of these Sony threads with great interest. It was killing me trying to decide between the A7r and A7, but I think my local dealer decided for me, putting the last A7 from their first shipment on hold for me. I plan to pick it up today and test out my RF glass. I'm looking forward to seeing how well/poorly my biogons perform, let alone the CV15/4.5.

Browsing the Henry's site last night and there appears to be stock of both models in my SW Ontario area...
Incidentally, Henry's is offering $250 off the purchase of an LA-EA4 if you purchase (or did purchase) an A7/A7r from them. $100 for this adapter seems like a fine deal, and if you bought elsewhere in Canada it might be worth citing the Henry's deal for price match purposes.
Oh and Michael, I've had my body since last Wednesday, but the real obstacle to shooting has been our poor-to-mediocre weather! Looking nicer this week, however.

Not for him, but for Huff, there is. I started my own blog a few months ago and learned a lot about this world.
If Huff "sells" one M, he gets $200-300. Trust me, he doesn't want to lose this. He's been doing great thanks
to Leica and he's not gonna cut that branch. It affects his site and the content greatly.
You need to push much more cheap stuff to get the same commission. Is he gonna openly say - Leica lenses
s@ck, just use cheap Sony glass and wait for manual Zeiss lenses? Not in a million years.
That's also why he raves about EVERYTHING because he has fans of "everything" coming to his blog.
If he says camera A s@cks, some of those people will go away. It's a business, nothing else.

I wasn't sure where to post this since the lens isn't a RF but I have just tried my Canon FD 24mm f/1.4 L on an A7R and am happy to report that there are NO color / smearing issues with this lens. By f/4 most vignetting is gone and by f/5.6 it's gone completely. Even wide open at f/1.4 the vignetting is easily corrected.

For Canadians:
The Sony Store (and by extension probably all Canadian dealers given that Vistek and Henrys are doing this) are also able to offer a LA-EA4 for only $100. If the sales person doesn't offer it, remind them. Offer is only available at time of purchase of an A7 or A7r. Also inside the box there's a 15% discount offer on Sony products for your next purchase, so if you have a bunch of other items to buy, pick them up on a second bill and save some $. I don't know if that Sony offer is Sony Store specific, just glanced at the coupon last night.

I hear you... I find it hard to get enthused when the weather is, well, typical Vancouver November/December weather. Looks like we have a couple or three good crisp days ahead here, I hope to get out today.

Finally had some time to customize the camera a little and I have to say there are some nice touches in the firmware. I particularly like that some buttons do double duty depending on context, such as C1 by default for a native AF lens allowing for focus area selection; C1 when a non native lens is attached moves to autofocus.
Pre-AF was, I think, enabled on my camera out of the box. Annoying until I found it.
From what I can see in my limited sitting at my desk testing, manual focus is a dream on this camera compared to the Ricoh GXR/M. The high resolution viewfinder sure makes a difference.

Thanks, Vern. What do you think of the lens on a FF overall? It would be much appreciated if you could post some samples in the Canon FD Images thread.

Great to hear you got the camera Vern. It should be super for your long hikes...
