Back to the small things The Gulf Fritillaries have been very busy laying eggs on the passion flower tendrils.
Amazing that they seem to prefer the tendrils over the leaves.
I went out looking to see if I could find some of the eggs. They are so very small, but found a few.
While I was looking one of the butterflies actually landed on my arm and laid an egg on it
I know I have posted the shots of the butterfly on the tendril, but posting again just for the reference.
This morning it rained. So I thought drops of rain on the tendrils , reflections, eggs , should make some nice shots.
So pull out the tripod , macro lens, camera and flash. Well I guess I did not have the camera mounted correctly on the tripod, as the whole thing feel off the tripod !!!! I always double check, but still fell off Fell 3 to 4 feet to the grass and now camera not working , hot shoe broken and who knows what damaged maybe to the lens. Needless to say , not a good day. Well not so bad , had a good encounter with the butterfly .
As always you nits , crits and comments are greatly appreciated.
What a story...so rather than moan you found the silver lining....why am I not surprised😊
These are remarkable not only because they are unique but are so much more than documentary shots....love them all.
Of course I'm so sorry to hear about the broken stuff...hopefully nothing major and you'll be back at it in no time.

I still love that first shot Birdie. 2 is my pick of the rest, but they are all very good.
Sorry to hear about your gear - I hope you have insurance. If not, it's fairly cheap to add to your home owners ins. ~ Ron
Excellent set Birdie. The stages of life for this species is shown well, and your story was an enjoyable read (well, except for the camera part). Well done.
So sorry to hear about the camera bailing off the tripod, ouch that hurts
Fantastic macro work Birdie. #2 IMO could be comped better perhaps moving the coil more to the left and upwards a bit with egg leaning in toward centerish
Lovely work and such a cool encounter you have been having!

Terrific shots, Roberta. Having had a similar accident with a camera, I know how you must have felt. Send both the lens and camera for repair just to make sure. And it's our loss here...not seeing some of those terrific shots in the interim.
Sorry to hear about your photo gear, Birdie.
This is a lovely set, with some really interesting close up shots of the fritillary eggs. You did good

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I just tracked my shipment back to Nikon and it shows "transportation accident" I am just sitting here shaking my head at this point.
