p.1 #1 · Pitkin Lake, Colorado

I took these a couple weeks ago near Vail. What do you think?

I'd appreciate your comments! Thanks!

Kathy,

I think both of these need some extra sharpening. (I often fail to do that last bit of tweaking needed for posting.....)

I'd be interested to see the colour versions....

Regards,
Mark

Mark,

Thanks for noticing that. I added the sharpening. Let me see if I can pull up the color version later tonight.

Kathy,

SWEET! Love the compositions. Definitely want to see the color versions, though.

Here are the color versions. I wasn't very satisfied with them; they flowers didn't catch my eye in the picture the way they did in real life. In my B&W conversion, I used mostly the blue channel, which made the purple flowers quite bright and obvious. Suggestions?

You're welcome to manipulate the images if you'd like, especially if you can explain your technique to me. Thanks Pat and Mark!

Kathy,

I do all of my shooting in Colorado and know those flowers well. I never could get the color out of them - even selecting them and working them seperately in Photoshop. I just recently started shooting in RAW and that was the first time the colors really came out. I'm skeptical that it's RAW that made the difference, though. Most of my previous shots were mid-day vs the RAW ones were mid morning. Yours actually look better than anything I had gotten before. I like the color versions a lot!

Kathy, I prefer the color versions. The B/W conversions were flat and with the sky blown in the second shot, just didn't tickle my fancy. Also, the top of the second one could most likely be cropped out completely, just above the tree tops on the left and center of the photo, thus eliminating the blown sky. The foreground of the second shot is truly beautiful!

Color gets my vote! Other than the clipped skies, you did well.
Good luck,

AJ ... your cropping suggestion is great. I tried it and I like it a lot!

Hi again Kathy,

The colour versions definitely get my vote! Both are very sweet images. Flower colours are so often a pain - especially in the mauve to purple area. I remember having much agony with film too.

Regards,
Mark

Kathy, I vote for the color versions, too. The flowers are fantastic especially with this wonderful background.
