Its going to be hard to follow Justin's awesome Assiniboine shot but here is my attempt!
55km of hiking over two days left my buddy Justin and I in pretty rough shape. Nevertheless, we slowly managed to drag ourselves up the Nublet for this serene view of Sunburst Peak in Assiniboine Provincial Park.
After scrambling around the rocks for nearly 2 hours in search of a good composition, I finally settled on this. With zero clouds in the sky, I locked down the tripod and impatiently waited for a light show that I was convinced wasn't coming.
Half hour after the sun had set the sky was still looking lifeless and we were pretty much ready to pack up and call it a day. We decided to wait a few more minutes and sure enough, the sky started to cooperate. "GET READY, the pink is coming!", yelled Justin as he scrambled back down to his tripod a couple hundred meters away. I rushed back to my camera and fired off a flurry of shots over the next 10 minutes. This shot is the result of my efforts.
A quick note on the stars. Originally we had planned to leave our tripods in position and hike back up at 4am the following morning in order to shoot the sky but after a gruelling first couple of days, we didn't think we would be able to make it back in one piece. We couldn't shoot the stars that evening because the moon was out in full force and wouldn't set until 3am. Luckily, we had been up at 4am earlier this morning shooting the stars, but from a slightly different vantage point. Thus, some artistic liberty was taken in order to combine the stars from the morning shot with this one.
This is one of my personal favourites and I really hope you enjoy it.

I continue to work on my astro landscapes technique and I can say your photo would be my goal end result some day. Then I can call myself an expert. Good thing I have fun smelling the roses along the way!
Thank you all very much for the support, it really means a lot to me. I am really happy with how this turned out, especially in light of how much effort I expended trying to get the shot (I have been to physio twice already to sort out an injury I got on the hike).
