I've just started trying landscapes and this will be my first time at shooting up there. I will be trying North Lake and/or Rock Creek lake. Good luck with your trip to Alabama Hills and White Mountains.

I'm heading up to Bishop tomorrow and staying overnight. I can post some quick snaps Saturday evening to give everyone an idea. Using Saturday afternoon to find a good spot for Sunday morning.
I look forward to the update. I should be heading there in a few days, unless of course I end up in Colorado instead... But it will be nice to hear and see what current conditions are.
Made it up to Bishop today. Checked in and drove up to Rock Creek Lake before the sun went down. Some nice colors. Took some quick snaps on my phone to give everyone an idea of the colors right now. Hitting South Lake tomorrow morning.
Also visited Mountain Light Gallery. Snapped a photo of Galen's Nikon FM2.
Guess I'll have to live vicariously through this thread this year, absolute earliest I could get to the Eastern Sierras is 10/18. Based on what I'm reading/hearing, this is going to be way past prime in most areas. Have placed this on my MUST-DO list for next year late September, husbands trip to Bandon will just have to be at another time of year
Thanks to everyone for your contributions to this thread so I have color to look at!
I visited Rock Creek, South Lake, Sabrina, and North Lake this weekend. Favorite by far was Rock Creek. Sabrina and South Lake were both pretty much drained. The road up to North Lake scared the crap out of me when I came face-face with another large truck. That is a long way down if your wheels get too far over.
It was my first time taking long exposures with my D600 and a Lee Big Stopper. Thought I had my viewfinder covered enough, but still had enough light leek to ruin a few photos.
Overall, it was a fun trip. Rock Creek lake was gorgeous and I could have spent the whole day there relaxing in the sun.
Got to Lee Vining last night and missed a great sunset with lenticular clounds
I left an hour later than planned.
So here is my consolation prize in Toulemne Meadows just after the sun went down http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5452/10014805985_685c20025f_b.jpg
Visited Mono Lake this morning for an awesome sunrise. Still processing the images.
Also visited Devils Post Pile for the first time & will share that as well.
Managed to get in about 10 4x5 shots throughout the morning.
Going to busy when I get back
Went through June Lake Loop., Some color in spots, especially on the hills to the east.
Also visited South Lake & Sabrina. I'm less bothered by the water level as I usually go for Aspens along the creeks, etc. There is some good color at both.
Took a quick look at Convict Lake. It has some color, but just not many trees.
Very windy, choppy water. Will check the forecast for tomorrow.
So the next three mornings, will try to get some morning side/back lit shots at Sabrina & S Lake. May check out Rock Creek
Visiting Alabama Hills. either tomorrow/Wed or Thurs AM
Here are a few from this weekend. First two show the evidence of light leak on my D600. Need to find a better way to cover the eyepiece. Still working at better composition, but I'm totally open to any advice.
Hoping to get to Lundy Canyon near Mono Lake with my wife on Thursday. It sounds gorgeous, hope the colors are good! I'll likely be there well past sunrise (2hr drive down from Reno), but if it is a sunny day it should still be pretty with whatever waterfalls are flowing this year. We'll see how far up into the canyon we get, that is up to my wife and our dogs!

Give an update on Friday if you can on Lundy. I am heading that way hopefully Friday.
Just got back from Eastern Sierra Trip so here's the latest from what I saw.
Sabrina at the "exit" had some nice color at the bridge but not much else.
Didn't get up to N. Lake, but did visit South Lake twice. Lots of color pretty much all the last 2/3 of the drive in.
Didn't visit Lundy, Rock Creek or McGee Creek, sorry
On the way home via Sonora Pass went over Conway summit and it was lit up, 80% plus. I didn't explore the Virginia Lakes area so can say but it looked good.
Sonora Pass, just past the Marine Corp training center has a lot of color pretty much all the way top the summit. Problem is no way to find a comp, let alone a place to stop.
I did stop at Wolf Creek and there's a nice stream with Aspens aglo. Simple but nice.
There are a few other spots, along, but not a collection..
Now I did visit Alabama Hills, TWICE, but that's another story
