Hey guys, I have landed in a problem using older version of Nikon Transfer to load the files on my laptop and unluckily I also deleted the files from the SD card. The pics were from my trip to Yellowstone and would really like to save them. The files are showing up as 1620 x1080 resolution. Is there a way to recover these files. The files size shows up as 25-26 MB.
Any help is really appreciated.

1. Best approach is to email the support address for the manufacturer of your card and ask for their specific software to recover your erased card files. Generally you can download it and normally it is free.
2. I guess I am old-fashioned, but I NEVER use any utility by ANYONE (including Lightroom!) to transfer card files over to my computers, especially since Nikon released their codex for PCs so that all the current formats would display under microsoft's operating system...........I ALWAYS just use the "COPY" command and let the computer copy the files over to a new folder on the hard drive. Does not take much longer and avoids any possibility of the troubles like you had.

Gene, I have already reused the SDHC card for new pics. Luckily for the next round I just kept using new cards and did not delete the pics after transferring to the computer.
This has been a very frustrating learning experience. I basically lost 3 days worth of pics from my Yellowstone trip.

Don't rate any of the images in the old ViewNX software that you downloaded! There size will be reduced and completely corrupted. It appears that if the size of these corrupted files are similar to the size of the normal pictures you take than the file can be fixed.
Phil Harvey is the creator of ExifTool who made the sofware to fix the corrupted files. It appears that his website is temporarily offline.

Hopefully you can still save them with that program. It would definitely be heartbreaking to think they were lost I am sure.
But now to echo Runamucks comment. I would suggest that you ditch any transfer software. If you don't know how, learn how to use File Explorer and copy the files yourself. Our photos are too valuable to basically hand off the copying and storing of those files to a 3rd party program. At least, I would never do that.
Also if you haven't used that card that much even after deleting it. You should be able to recover a bunch of the deleted files off it. Use one of those photo recovery programs on it. By design most memory cards have a built in wear leveling and you have to really fill the card to get rid of everything.

Guys , thanks a lot for all the help and tips. I have downloaded Phil Harvey's Exiftools utility and have been able to start recovering the pics. Have recovered about 250 and have another approx 1000 to go. The utility works like a charm.
