Lenscoats for these lenses will cost you about:
100-400 - $80
400 f5.6 - $80
400 DO - $100
I made my own from one running foot of 3mm neoprene B foam. Cost of the neoprene $13 and I had a bottle of Pliobond glue, but figure maximum of $8 for the right glue. Total cost of $21 to do the three lenses, compared to $260 if I had bought Lenscoats.
Not as professional-looking, but they do the job for me.
You can order the neoprene and glue from rockywoods.com
Tony, cool covers, well done, I use LensCoat's for my teles and bigger zooms as I've not the dexterity to DIY, not sure I'd go with black, but they look nice

Thanks, black works just fine for this part of the country. Anyone who thinks the camo version works any better for wildlife is kidding themselves.

I'm not kidding anybody, least of all myself. Most of the birds I try to photograph can count, let alone see.

Tony, it's not the actual color that I'm wondering about, that doesn't matter, to each his/her own, but black tends to absorb heat and given I live and shoot in SoCal's desert sun and high temps, that's why I went Camo instead...the black looks way cool...besides, animals and birds don't find my power wheelchair very inviting, no kidding
I don't look forward to black in Texas now, either . But then again, any color of Neoprene beats any color of bare steel or magnesium alloy hands down. Mostly, though, Canon's white just doesn't fly for me. I'd take off the Neoprene for paid gigs, but for amateur and candid work, I'd prefer the lens be a different color.
Super idea !!!!! Yours look great, you'd never guess they were DIY. If I try it I'm going with Camo however, but just because it gets really hot here. I like the look of the black the best however.
