So tonight I picked up one of these with a Nikon fieldscope - anyone have any experience using one? I'll see what I can get with it on the D7000 or D800 bodies; it looks like I may want to use two tripods perhaps and a release, but it says it will be a 1200mm combo.
And not a fast one, but we can rock the iso pretty high these days so I'm very curious to try!
I picked up one of those at a going-out-of-business sale. Never used it due to lack of a fieldscope, but it seems like an interesting plaything. Let us know how it works for you.
Well, here are my first two quick 'n dirty test photos - both from a solid tripod and in not-so-great light.
The first is with the D800 in DX mode and the 300mm AFS f4, the longest lens I currently own, set to f13, which is what the FSA-L1 reports as a fixed aperture to the cameras. Support from just the kirk collar on the lens.
The second is with the D7000 on the scope. Support from scope tripod mount and a lightstand under the camera body
It's f13, manual focus, not sure of metering options yet, but it ain't no 800mm with a TC as far as getting off a quick high magnification shot, that's for sure
There's some noticeable CA but this is probably a tough subject and it's only a $700 scope, not one of ED ones. I can still read much of the smallest text on the sprayer at 100% view.
